Kubota KX080-4a2 Servicing

Morning all

I wanted to get an idea of peoples thoughts on servicing on the KX080-4a2 model from Kubota. The hydraulic filter elements are changed on the first 250hr service and then supposed to be on every 1000hr service but a hire supplier that I deal with advise they also add one in to the 500hr service intervals (every time) because their machines are used often with attachments (peckers etc).

It seems an awful waste for the price of a hydraulic filter on one of these machines considering we probably use a pecker once or twice a month throughout our fleet over 20+ Kubota's. Once you add in the additional £100+ per service for the hydraulic oil filter costs can soon add up.

What's everyone's thoughts? add in an extra one every 500hr service or leave it as is for the reason I've mentioned, not really using many attachments.

Try and monitor hammer use, obviously the hours for filter change will lessen the more the hammers are used, don’t rent hammers to other peoples machines, the first filter change is for factory dwarf! Then stick to 1000 hrs change.

I annually change the hydraulic filters along with everything else.. maybe ask for a box of 100 filters and see if they can sort you some extra discount for a decent order?

assume we are talking about the in tank return filter here ... the one in the 'Drema is nigh on 200 quid and a fair lump ... can't see much of a deal to be had on " a box of 100 filters " ... you sure want deep pockets for a box ... and a vault to keep 'em in

I don't mind so much the £54 for a hyd return filter but the £24 for a pilot line filter which is smaller than an egg cup gets me every time. The way of looking at though is that servicing it properly by the book will always look cheap against a repair through neglect.

Also depends how long you intend to keep the machines. If you run a fleet of them as you suggest, I guess they are swapped out for new before too many hours and if that's the case, arguably its not your problem if it causes issues long term from having contaminated oil in. Not what I would do as an owner operator but as a businessman its got to cross your mind.

my pilot is tiny too in comparison and got a damned good wash out and blasting with 150PSI when the main got changed a while ago .... was a hell of a lot cleaner going back in and didn't get anything major out of / off it .... ought to get her a new one sometime

Thanks all, I think i'll leave it to the 1000hr intervals. It seems totally daft to have new ones fit every 500hrs. I'll monitor attachment usage and work from that.

Looking at the filter I wouldn’t be keeping the machine for a lot longer, without changing the hydraulic oil!
