Jcb 803 hydraulic oil question

A fairly old and well used 803, few leaks, the worst being in the rotary union, I need to top up the hydraulic oil and was thinking about going thicker grade, iso68 instead of 46, would this help with leaks until they’re fixed.

ain't gonna improve functionality though and make your pumps work harder ..... where is the rotary leaking from?

Don’t really know where the leak is from, just know it drips and sometimes more when hot, a well placed bucket helps when I park the beast up.
What’s involved in re-sealing these.

quite a lot - mostly in the removal/replacement stages

Don’t put 68 in, it’ll just make everything work harder. You need to remove the rotary seal, which means that you need to disconnect hoses above and below the seal, then remove it and reseal. Not too scary but you need plenty of hydraulic blanks.

A thicker oil will go some way to compensate for a worn pump, but put 3000psi behind it and leaky seal will still leak.
