JCB 8014 hydraulic fluid top up - please advice

Hello, recently I purchased used mini digger JCB 8014 (2014). I checked engine oil and coolant level and noticed that hydraulic oil is low (see photo). I searched the net on the subjects, but there is nothing about hydraulic fluid. I only learn about the fluid spec. However, I would like to learn how to top up or change the oil in hydraulic system. What is the procedure? Does it need to be de-pressurized? or bleed? Where is the fluid filter? This is my first machine of this type and I have no experience these matters. Hence, I am looking here for some help from experienced owners or JCB technicians. JCB Internet support is complete rubbish. They don’t even have User manual available on line. Shame !!! Please help. Boom outstretched (so the Rams are all "In") will give you the Datum point for the machine.

Take top off tank, fill to mark.

and therein lies the nub of the problem ..... as Rory says..... dipper fully extended, bucket ram closed to full dump and boom as low as it'll go on a flat surface ..... if you fill to this point, you will never have more oil in the tank than at this level ..... unless you're in a very deep hole with the bucket

Hi, many thanks for all messages above. I tried to buy Hydraulic Fluid for my JCB 8014. The manual book shows JCB HP 32 (or HP 46) without giving any speck or oil tech data. Obviously they want to sell their own brand. But no one locally has it in stock. I checked on eBAY, some have JCB HP15 (expensive). So, my question is, can I use any other hydraulic fluid available on UK market? Do you have any recommendations, please ?

Any ISO Hydraulic 46 mate.

The prefix describes the application / additives used, the number (like engine oils) tells you how thick (viscous) the oil is.
The higher the number - the thicker / less runny it is. HP32 for cold climate, HP46 for hot climate. JCB use HP15 in place of brake fluid on backhoes and probably elsewhere).
Unless you are confident you know the brand of the oil currently in the tank, any appropriate oil is as good as any other.

all rams closed, including offset, bucket and dozer blade. We was taught at JCB with all them closed so long as its on the gauge then your all good.

I don't know if your picture has been rotated?
If it is rotated 90deg clockwise, it would look to have some oil at the very bottom of the glass, with all the rams closed as much as possible it may not need much oil.

agreed ... does look to be showing slightly ....
as for JCB branded oil ..... 's a rip off
someone else's oil in their labeled can .... JCB do not have a refinery

any decent virgin hydraulic oil of the correct grade ... Morris's, Shell, whatever as long as it comes from a reputable source

A few year ago jcb were using q8 as their oil supplier, don't know if they still are might have saved a penny elsewhere
