How about getting a pick up done with that 5 wheel conversion and goose neck trailer can tow 5.3 ton then and when trailer not needed it's just a normal pick up?
In short this is what I'd love. But in short budget is a big factor. I know a few people that have priced this up and cost was high... also as rory says I think it could be a mine field..... by simply Vosa not knowing what the hell you had if pulled over😂
I even toyed with the idea (and still do) of converting an old transit into a "mini artic" but where would you even start to get it all approved.

i looked into the mini artic's a while back, providing you have the old style licence with B+E it is a very viable option as there is no limit to how much you can tow, the limit is the plated trainweight of the vehicle. The crack seemed to be find a 7.5 tonner with good train and axle weights then downplate it as it still keeps the same train weight.

The best I saw was this merc which has a 13ton payload capacity on a car licence..

I’ve seen a few older 5th wheel vw lt35/45’s that were built for pulling exhibition units

What's the point if you still have to have a operaters licence, storage and the 6 or 8 week inspections?

you dont on a mini artic as they are cars.
Very grey area that I wouldn't like to poke. Any trailer over 3.5t also falls into plating and O license .... Regardless of towing vehicle.

That's what I thought. Also a thought on using a 3.5 tonne tipper to tow, I thought if you want a train weight above 3.5 tonnes it needs to be a multipurpose vehicle like a 4x4 but I could be wrong about that. On top of all that I think you can't work outside a certain radius of home and can't carry other people's stuff. Then there is the un laden weight of tow vehicle must be below 2040kg . I don't know how much of that bollocks they enforce.

I am also drinking (Doombar atm, on the second bottle).... so you get the short answer... which is we only run a lorry now... Zero trailers as there more hassle than there worth. Yes there are many exemptions but ultimately your just aswell going the whole hog with a 18t lorry as pissing around trying to bend the law with pickups and trailers or beating about with a 7.5 tonner and thinking you don't need a tacho because your not doing haulage.

FYI the lorry is pulling in over £400 a day at the moment. Yes that's luck of the draw jobs but picking and choosing has certainly paid dividends.
