those filters may need entering into the Guinness Book ... for longevity Vin .... ... deffo not gonna cut it on extended performance life though :ROFLMAO:
I’m all for skipping an odd pollen filter replacement now and then but I’m reckoning they are a couple of hours past needing done !
Does my theory sound feasible re motor cut out or is a bad connection more likely sorted by me disconnecting everything and connecting back up again ?

A motor temp. cutout normally operates like a self-resetting fuse. That is, it allows the motor to run until the fuse heats up each time.
Yours sounds more like a dodgy connection that has been fixed by wiping the contacts against each other.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
could also be down to total lack of air flow - might even stall the motor if the enclosure is well enough sealed, as you'd expect with filtered inlets
