Hitachi EX60 TRAVEL DEVICE
On the belt motor of a friend of mine's machine, hydraulic oil has started to leak out of a blind plug
due to the fact that the flange above the o-ring has rusted away so there is a hole in it so you can see the o-ring and that is where the oil comes out.
So the question is short and sweet.
Is there any hope of getting this plug out
Or should we just weld it over and hope it seals without leaking

I'm afraid I'm a little skeptisk
There is the Machine working pressure here

Split the motor from the Final drive, easily enough and take it to a bench for repair. I had one do this years ago and i welded a nut to the plug and it came out ok

was going to say the same, but with a full working pressure behind it, I'd be doing what Aiden suggested .... get it mega clean as poss. and weld the nut through the centre with a MIG ... the heat involved will help dramatically in extracting the plug

Maybe the green arrow is where the plug is compared to where the port and cap head bolt are, if you are going to weld it why don’t you weld a nut to it and try and remove it, it does have an O ring seal below the cap head which will melt but help to remove the plug.

I took one like this 1 Kg

which gave one like this a few smacks

followed by one like this
Who also received a few light smacks

And I didn't believe my eyes but it came loose
So tomorrow the hunt for the new blindplug starts

You are a absolutely korrekt That's the correct plug
My arrow is at the wrong place But the same kind of plug
