Help again please track adjuster

Hi guys I have an old cat 301.5 been going well but track now going slack. Took track off and pulled idler out and it has snapped from recoil spring A long time ago by the look of it. So 2 problems I need to get new seals and how does the recoil spring come out. All videos I’ve seen seem to just pull out with idler and adjuster on other mini diggers. but no movement or do I have to undo nut on end but then will the spring come off? Any help would be great

You will need a decent press to do the recoil spring, you might get the old one off without it but will need a press to get it back on.

so it doesn’t just slide out you have to undo nut?

The broken one will probably fall off when the nut is undone, but there is not always enough thread to get the nut started with a new spring.
