Have I damaged electrics ?

Left work lights on in my van MAN tge180 Friday night . Completely flattened battery . I put charger on it on the van over night but it didn’t charge it for some reason .
I then connected up another battery on the wrong terminals 🤬 was on for a few seconds before I realised mistake .
Corrected the terminals but the individual battery wouldn’t jump it . Got the amarok over and jumped fine . It would only just start , wouldn’t rev up and as soon as it was disconected from amarok it died !
Any ideas ?

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
yep .. take the flat one off, see if a conditioning charger will fetch it back and stick a new one on the van ... you might have to 'spike' the flat one with a hefty charge rate for a few minutes ...
if it won't have it, chalk it down to experience AND don't do it again :p;):giggle:

I’m always telling everyone to check twice with jump leads ! I’ve been using a set at work that have a black lead and a red lead . The ones in the van are both black with just a red bit on one clamp. I might have had it in my head that the black lead was negative as it wasn’t red when I connected it but it must of been the live .
Do you think that the van would have some form off protection for the ecu etc ?
It did start but only ticked over and wouldn’t run on its own as if the alternator wasn’t charging .

might possibly have done for the rectifier in the alternator Vin ... ?
get a new battery on it (the right way round :p;)) and try it ....
don't panic 'til you have it configured as it should be..
if it still gives issues, I guess the only thing for it then would get someone with a full diagnostic set up to plug in and interrogate it :(

get a roll of red tape and fully cover the handles on one lead and maybe a bit on the lead tails too

If you’d done anything serious, e.g. fried ECU, it wouldn’t start. As already said, put a good battery on it and you’ll probably find that you get your throttle back. I think you’ll be alright. Might be worth a quick trip through all of the fuses.

Little tip, if the battery you are jumping is fubar use a different earth point to stop that battery zapping the good volts you put in….

If a battery has a bad cell and you try and jump that cell can cause lots of issues …. Moving the earth stops you going directly into it.

better still take the earth off the nadgered battery to isolate it from the circuit/system and put the jumper direct to that earth lead without it being in contact with the battery's pole

Got the battery to take a charge overnight . Fitted it again this morning and it started and revved up as well . It’s not charging though .
I got local mechanic to take a look with me and he’s had a look over all the blade fuses and mega fuses and all are in tact and current flowing . It’s now down at his garage for a new alternator . Fingers crossed that sorts it but I have my doubts 😳

I think that’ll sort it out. There’s only so many possibilities before it starts working..

could well have been the alternator's reg./rec. that saw off the battery Vin

The battery was ok bud . It took a charge over night . Apparently these alternators are only charging when they get a signal to do so from ecu. It will charge more when decelerating to save fuel 🤷‍♂️ apparently the terminal on the back of the alternator when unplugged when engine is running should be live and nothing was live so hopefully that’s it 🤞
Will know in the am
