Absolutely clueless to this world, but I am interested. I’ve got some experience with some plant machinery diggers/dumpers/small farm tractors etc. I also have my HGV class 1
Basically I’m looking for an earning sideline.
I currently work as a train driver and I do a permanent late shift (varied start/finish times but averages around 1400-2330hrs) and work 4 days a week. I earn £60k so get killed on tax with overtime - so there’s not much point doing it. Anything over £52k I’ve currently got set up to go straight into my railway pension to avoid the 40% bracket. I’m not one that likes days off from earning, hence I’d like a sideline on my 3 days off.
My question to you all, given that you live in this world is… could you make it work doing 3 days a week plus a bit of local ‘morning work’? Do you simply put a local ad up on Facebook and wait to be messaged? is finding work is easy? Slow periods in the year? How much per day for say a digger with a dumper?
I fully appreciate that these questions can be ‘how long is a piece of string’ I’m just after current experiences. Am I thinking of completely the wrong industry that requires it all to be full time? I’ve got £20k I can chuck at this but would I recoup if I only committed 3 days?
