French drain, Drainage

I want to put a French drain next to a garage because garage floor is lower than the dirt outside and is damp. Can I just connect the perforated drainage pipe to the surface water drain that the roof gutter goes in to?

If the roof drainage goes to a main sewer the answer is no!! But if so one is looking run it into the shingle around the pipe work and to might find the water finds it way out!!😉😉😉

It's a 1990s bungalow and I'm 99% sure it's got separate system. It looked fairly dry under the manhole cover in the summer when I did the fence.

If rainwater goes into sewer already than its not the thing to do but just tap it into the gulley and say nowt

Ideally lower the ground but if your going to pipe into the storm drain, personally I would put a silt trap before the connection
