Free Plant Training?

Anyone else been approached by a training provider saying they can offer FREE NVQ's in plant in a certain county (in this case Berkshire). It was a cold call but they check out online and seem legit. I cant work out if its real or if it is a scam - what the scam is! They certainly knew what they were talking about when I questioned them about the scheme and training they provide. But why would a company from Sheffield come all the way down to Berkshire to train people? Obviously they get paid by the gov grant but then begs the question why other training providers havent got onto this scheme?
Anyone done it? Dont fancy getting scammed this year - already paid £600 to the CPCS scheme for my telehandler ticket for a flower show that never happened!

Could well be legit , some lads here have done NVQs FOC on some scheme.

I know the government used to pay training companies to put lads on the dole though as part of them actively seeking employment so they could stay on the dole. Could be that they've claimed a load of money and need to justify it but you'd think they could find plenty nearer home tbh.

I used to claim the training levy, got 50% back from all training spend, was handy as at the time it cost about 2k a ticket to get onto a red card! In some respects I need to add afew categories onto my ticket but I’m at the point with my career that if someone needs to ask to see my qualifications I’d rather not work for them.

what he said load of cr@p if you ask me, got a car driving licence 26 years ago never had to retrain, then got a motor bike one never asked to do that again then got a HGV class 1 when I was 21 still got it without any refreshers but this drivers cpc is another load of bullucks I passed a proper CPC so I could get an operators license 2 weeks study for a proper qualification that also doesn’t need refreshing

Be grand if it was taught with a brain.

I switched off on my initial driver CPC when the instructor demonstrated where to correctly load steel on a model of a artic.... then when I pointed out i'd put it Just behind the tractor units back axle he proclaimed I was wrong as it is a rigid lorry

Not bothered renewing mine... Hopefully in a few months time the rural work exemption will kick in anyway.... f****ng load of bollocks.

The list of stupid things I have been told on CPC courses would take me 2 days to write down
But I had to do three days with the bluntest weapon of a bloke I have ever met last year
Among his best ones where
Him being proud he had written an arctic load of spiral ducting off as he had been told to strap it down and couldn't fathom you could vary the tension of a ratchet strap
And telling us every piece of plant needed chains regardless and us using 3 5t straps on a mini was not good enough as you had to chain plant
In the end he carried on teaching his class word for word whilst everyone chatted amongst themselves

I've been at that stage since I started....

I started out working on all the blue chip company sites, councils etc so kinda needed them. I just renew my touch screen tests every 5 yrs, helps me remember which way up to stand when going up a ladder with a incorrect fire extinguisher I guess
