Wrong batteries isn’t it ? Should be a load of little ones?

We had one bubbling under a drivers seat once. Didn’t go bang though

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
enclosed battery box, probably unvented - accumulation of H2 and a bad contact somewhere ... 's gonna go bang ...
have had a few go bang over the years - one, an enormous commercial, covered me in its contents and just ran for a hose ... overalls were completely bollo-ed after ....
need to treat batteries with respect - they're potential bombs, especially taking them off charge, or if their respective engines have been running - they produce a LOT of hydrogen

copious water wash in that box or it'll be gone in a week or two - as in completely flood it ;)

I had one go a few weeks ago on a caravan- genuinely thought I was under fire!
Massive bang, wtf was that, ran over the road to check on the land rovers (priorities 😆 🤣). No sign of anything- human, fireworks or mechanical disaster (had wondered if it was a disco air spring exploding) so wandered back over, starting to think ahh I know..
Yep, battery absolutely split in pieces about 8ft from where I'd been 😬😬

my little electric forklift bubbles very noisily when on end of a charge cycle. Scares the crap out of me. I open the cover and charge it next to the open roller door.

... and Bi-Carb (Sodium Bicarbonate) from the kitchen cupboard - it's a mild alkaline that will neutralize the acid.

Wore a scar for many years under one eye from an exploding battery - the Lucas mechanical regulator was arcing inside and causing the battery to over charge and gas. Got a face full of acid and shattered plastic. Ears had a bit of a ring too.

good call (y)

you got away lightly by the sounds of that reg incident.

the BIG commercial that went off on me - was sliding it out the side locker on a Coles, sort of gut/chest height and caught the poles on the locker edge - boom!! - blew me off my feet and covered me - wasn't the warmest of days but I was determined to soak myself with the hose as I tore my boiler suit, etc. off ...... wasn't a lot left of the battery - unbelievable bang

Funny how it focuses the mind - I had 150m walk to the nearest shower where I hosed myself for 10min, got undressed and gave it another 10min.
