His Dad is a great plant op, does some really good work etc.

Not sure id be putting my kid on a customers driveway up to a public footpath, just asking for trouble.. but I’m also a hypocrite 🤫
thats a good way to learn i know it is frowned on now, my dad used to plonk me on a tractor and set me off while he chucked bales on the trailer etc when kids are that age they pick stuff up in an instant they are like sponges soaking it all up. some may say the kid is missing his childhood i would think loads of kids would love to swap places. any one that's ever gone to work with their dad years ago probably did much the same as that. yea maybe not the best place to film it and then put it on social media, but i see no big issues with a dad doing the same with his sons or daughters i used to let my son have a play on the 3cx he was a bit older than that lad though.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for it, did the exact same myself, just never on other folks property/jobs. Always on my dads private land.. granted members of the public were around but only in quiet season, but times have changed! Then again I was driving a big triple gang mower down the road to the local shooting range on a Saturday morning in my early teens.. £10 a cut was good money for a 13yr old!

I used to go to work with my dad in the low loader from as early as I can remember & he used to let us drive all the kit as long as we could reach the pedals. That was child care back then.
I’m doing the same with my boy he’s only 4 but he’ll get there.
He came with me yesterday for a few loads in the hooklift but because it was a early start (6am) he crashed out about lunchtime

Best place/way to learn, just have to choose the right place/jobs

I started on the land at 13, but I had my lad on a JCB at Diggerland just after his third birthday. Didn’t make any difference long-term, he still isn’t interested.

This is getting a bit of a Top Trumps thing. Any advance on 3 Years?

well Clara loved the 'Drema and Jake at a very early age - certainly less than 3 but - on my lap with me firmly hanging onto / in control of the sticks, if either was running.
"Grand dad - digger- dummer " , take my finger and drag me in the right direction :):)

some excavator instructor with a generous, magnanimous and altruistic heart who teaches an elderly person like me all the secrets to operate the excavator like a professional? I can't rake with the excavator or extend the entire arm sink the teeth of the bucket retract the arm close it and level the ground it rears up and rises in front I can't move the controls simultaneously and in a synchronized and harmonious manner, I practically do in the middle of the movement I put my arm at 90° and pull the stick or I do half a maneuver and waste time, I'm too clumsy and clumsy. I have to work on it, I'll fail in September with the postponements. how do you go about leveling the land and tracing paths in the countryside? I get bumpy tracks.

Always make sure your machine is level before you start trying to grade! Keep the engine revs up to help the hydraulics operate more smoothly. If you have a level you can start from allow half the bucket to follow that, and subsequently overlap the bucket with previously levelled ground working across your site. Take your time and practice practice practice!
(It is much easier to grade with a larger machine - if you are operating a micro or mini excavator they are a lot more difficult to get a decent finish with. Level a bit out with the dozer blade and then practice following that grade with your bucket).

Don’t worry, there’s a lot of youngsters who can’t operate, either.

thanks for the valuable suggestions, but the terrain is becoming unevenly wavy disjointed
I should retire and despite being "old" I have to learn how to sharpen my wits

YouTube deleted my video of my 10 yr old sat in empty field in the Rops cab of our 9 ton Takeuchi riddling some stone because it promoted child endangerment! I appealed and they rejected it! Ffs
