Dipper mounted whacker/rammer

Are those dipper mounted whackers any good on 4" crusher run hardcore? I've got a 40 ton of 4"crusher run hardcore in an awkward area I can't get a roller into and thought a whacker on the end of the dx80 would put it down a bit.

They work very for what they do but will never replace a roller IMO

Made up this d e as weight rammer to get the job done. Seemed to work well

Looks cumbersome and very hard on the machine. Don't fancy those welds' chances either- lot of leverage and impact stress on them.

Surely you just end up punching holes in the ground?

Wouldn't a more square weight on the end of a short chain have been better?

Just had one purpose which it done very well, had a small pocket about a meter by 2.5m that was up filled approx 1.2 meters with 6" crusher run and didn't get compacted in. This thing put it all down about 8 inches. If it had a bigger base it would not of had the point load required to get the lower part of the pit compacted.
