Dipper Damage

This Kx71 has slowly been suffering.... when the bucket is crowded right out it taps the dipper, not had the old machine long but thought I better prevent it getting worse or knackering end of stick.

Plan is a little bit of plate welded over the area..... any tips from you fabricationally gifted chaps before I do it ?

DON'T DO IT!

Change the bucket or quick hitch or adjust the pin spacing. That will make the underlying problem (flexing the dipper nose) far worse, and you'll have the whole lot drop off before you know it due to metal fatigue.

Thankfully Yes....bit more thought and I stopped short of doing it.
Going to build a bit of meat back into that area?and investigate how we can stop it tapping there

The pin centres are too close on the hitch/bucket, unless there is massive play somewhere.

It's a kx71 that has had a jcb 803 hitch on all its life - there must be some difference in the spacings although I seemed to remember they were the same.
Like I say haven't had it long ... bought of a mate in the u.k as a stopgap/spare (yard machine).... I have always been under the illusion he took care of his kit .... this view is changing

After you've reinforced it, is there any way you can limit the travel as the plate will make the contact worse
(a collar on the ram shaft perhaps)

Pin spacing on the hitch must be far too close. Be good for bucket crowd angles but must take a lot of breakout force off it. I'd be looking to change hitch or if you don't wanna spend but have time modify hitch

Bit of a brain fart from start to finish.
Been flat out jumping from one machine to the other and not noticed the fact that it's actually damaging the dipper quite badly, turns out that the two manual hitches that i have are actually 125mm and 130mm centers - thinking back a few weeks i put the 125mm on the machine because it picks up all my buckets and the 130mm will only pick up half of the 6 or 7 bucket set .... anyhow the 125mm is too close and as the lads on here said and its enough to bang into dipper as in the previous photos.

Anyhow luckily I stopped before it had knackered end of stick and then Doob jumped in quick enough to stop me rushing about bodging and actually find the cause of the problem

Filled it up and ground it off - bit of paint and all should be good.

Nicely done , I would think it should be fine now. If you'd like to see a dipper that was instantly Knackered with a capital K over on the tractor by net forum- excavators- bent the dipper arm thread. Fella was was wrestling with some Mesquite trees. Feel kinda bad for him as he just bought the 260 Takeuchi recently, but at least he didn't get hurt.

Bent the dipper arm

From what I understand trees are the death of excavators and now I know why. I bent the tip of the dipper arm clearing some trees and brush. Apparently one of the trees snapped back and caused havoc to the Takeuchi TB260. Bent the dinner arm, tore the couple like it was made out of tin foil...
