Community Sports Club - Support

Afternoon All, Great community site, Plant Talk has just been recommended to me. I hope I can galvanise some support from you guys and advice. Looking for help in excavating lighting column bases and trenching for new cabling in sports grounds. Primarily, this is to install new LED floodlighting systems where clubs do not have a lot of money. This is across the UK 30-50 projects per year. Ideally, a network of keen guys to be on site for a couple of days to reduce the cost by using local contractors. Happy to consider any advice. We are looking to support the local clubs, although, where clubs can afford it they will be charged the appropriate rates. Great to hear from you. Please drop a post or message. Harry

You could try speaking to
Sportsclubhouses
And
S and c Slatter
I believe both these companies are used to dealing with funding schemes and also carrying out the work you are looking for

Thank you, know both these companies well. Sports Club House are consultants, S&C Slatter are pitch contractors and overheads are to high for a lot of clubs....looking for contractors who are interested in working direct for my company or to clubs wisemanlighting.co.uk My passion as a previous volunteer is to support clubs with funding and project delivery at scale. We sponsor a number of the football Leagues and a sister Not-For-Profit GrassRoots Power CIC grassrootspower.org.uk partners with some National Governing Bodies in Sport. Of course difficult to find smaller local companies to deliver civils works involved.

I will gladly get involved, But would depend on terms and how the rest of the installation contract is. We were asked to do similar to install floodlights a few years back on a charity case and upon reviewing the "preferred suppliers" of the equipment I decided it wasn't for me as the Charity involved seemed to be routing everyone to a very expensive equipment supplier/installer whom seemed to be getting cream whilst everyone else chipped in for f**k all. - I'm by no means insinuating that would be the case, but just a example. If your in it to make people's lives better I'm in. If your in it to earn off others good will I'm pretty quick to bite.

South Devon..... Only thing I will say with this sort of work is I will not and do not tolerate any liability or hassle off jobs for the greater good. Goodwill works both ways.

Morning Harry,
thanks for your PM offering me work in Essex :)
Have declined that offer at the moment because it's too far from where we are over at the NE Corner of Essex.
AND fully booked with other work and holidays right through into September.
This looks to be a very worthwhile project which any of our members would gladly get involved
Think that Rory @JD450A summed it up very eloquently as above 🤣
Suggest that you post a general call out for the far NW of Essex/ Cambridgeshire Border.
There may well be someone nearer who can help 😇
NE Essex - Harwich, Clacton, Colchester, Ipswich and surrounding areas covered from here.......

We had that with rugby club, partial grant but dependent on using the supplier/installer in system. The 50% grant was only little bit more than what we’d worked out we could do it for, albeit we work for loss/cost for rugby club my dad basically bank rolls them.

So preferred suppliers system lasted 16 months then boards blew etc our sparky ripped it all out and wasn’t very complimentary about components or workmanship.

If the suppliers win the tendering process by what ever means they’re onto a winner

Thank you all much appreciated - JD50A great feed back. We're on the same page as we're here to support clubs and volunteers not take advantage of anyone. Of course paying a going rate for work completed unless the volunteers at a club really needs support. Just by having local suppliers will reduce the costs of hotels and benefit locally. Each project is assessed on the capability of the clubs to deliver a project.

I've got no idea if we are a regional oddity but round here in the Cotswolds every sports club seems to have at least two plant operators as playing or social members who do the groundworks as part of their contribution.

It does seem to me that voluntary/charity sector needs to show input by local people and businesses to get a grant from the lottery and once got the plum jobs go to a few well known national contractors 🤔
