Case CX18B

Hi folks. I've just been offered one of these for £7k plus VAT. It is 2015 with 1900 hours. I was planning on getting a 2.5t machine, but very limited at the moment obviously and this is very local. I just got my building warrant today and there is nothing stopping me doing some site clearing / drainage as the site is just along the road and is open and away from neighbours.
Any thoughts about these machines please would be much appreciated. The site is sloping, not too severely, but I am not that experienced an operator. I am used to operating a tracked dumper with a post knocker, so know all about side slopes! Thanks.

Yes, definitely a good price. If it has expanding tracks then it will be surprisingly stable, just be sensible and you shouldn't have any issues.

At that price if it's good condition even if you end up deciding it's too small i reckon you could easy sell it on, even make a small profit on it.

Brilliant little digger. I’v had one for a few years and love it. U will be surprised how much work you can do with this size of machine. At that price you would be mad to miss it.

Yes I know the guy well. He is a contractor who I work for occasionally so no worries about it being a scam.

Just had the seller on the phone. He says there is a problem with expanding the tracks which they have been trying to sort this morning. It sounds like operators have taken them in / out without lifting the machine, and they can jump off the guide if you aren't careful. Any thoughts on this? Going to have a look now, so will report back. I can't see me needing to retract the tracks once they are out, but would be handy on occasion.

If its like the hitachis they just get full of rubbish and get stuck
I have spent hours with the pressure washer to get them to retract when the mud froze

Mines does the same. It’s the dirt and grime gets in around the slides. I try to keep the slides well greased up but they do dry up. There’s a little stopper on the end of the slide and this broke off on mine once. And when I extended the tracks out on side fell off. Lol the dealer fixed this for me as I hadn’t got the machine long

Thanks Jimbo, pretty sure that is what has happened (stopper broken off). Now I've seen it I've realised it's nothing drastic. They are going to weld a bit of chain on to stop that side extending too far and falling off. Once i am on site, will probably pretty much just keep the tracks out anyway.

I've seen them wear on the top of the slides that'll make a lip that'll stop them going in

Don't know if the case setup is different from the takeuchi system but I've never greased extending undercarriage slides and have had no problems, I'd rather just keep it clean than have grinding paste all over it

Iv got a new Holland E18B, exact same machine as the case, had the same problem with the undercarriage, just got it back yesterday from getting welded.
Absolutely great machine, hired lots of 1.5t machines in the past and far prefer the E18B! that one your buying is also way underpriced!

I love mine. Here’s a couple of jobs I’v just finished with it. Had it in a real tight spot today. I had to take the blade extensions off and narrow in my tracks. First time in a while.
