Carter 1.8 Excavator Trouble

I am hoping someone can help me. Excavator motor is sucking air. After laying overnight it has to be re bled again. Cannot find any leaking pipes anywhere. Wondering what could it be?

Normally drawing air in from a incorrectly fitted fuel filter, just check all fuel lines are tight and filters clean/fitted correctly

Laurie if the diesel system is taking in air, it has to have a leak somewhere. Start at the pump (copper washers on the banjo bolt) and then replace every pipe back to the tank. I would use clear pipe so you have a better idea of where air is getting in.

A bit caveman again but take the fuel hose off the tank end, stop the tank leaking for a bit, take the hose off the injection pump put your finger over the tank end, and blow down the pipe! Now if it has an electric pump in the fuel system this will have a one way valve, if when blowing down the pipe there are no noticeable leaks between inj pump and lift pump, then take the hose off the other side of the lift pump and with finger over the tank end blow down the pipe again, some where it will weep!

And use decent hose clips that grip the whole way around the pipe.

I apologise for not updating forum. I did what was advised. I am still waiting on a part. I am fairly sure that the non-return valve that is in the electric pump has been leaking back to the fuel tank. Just wondering if when I install the new non-return valve would it be better to put the new non-return valve before the fuel pump or after the fuel pump? Part should be here soon.

Personally before the pump so the pump stays primed.

I agree before the pump, as the weight of fuel in the tank should fill most of the pipe up to the valve by gravity.
