Benford Dumper

My old 3t Dumper 3cyl flattop engine doesnt seem to be charging very well - battery was stone flat and jumped started it and put multmeter on battery and it says 11.9v when engine was running cant see the alternator anywhere so I have a horrible feeling its up top somewhere behind all the cowling ??
anyone replaced one before ? struggling to find much info on the net.

It’s a magneto type system, big set of coils behind the flywheel. Flywheel off job to get to it.
there’s a control box on the flywheel cowling, this and its wiring should be your first port of call

I assume when you said “flat top”, you mean a Lister flat top? TS3? If not then my above info is not correct

Is it poss that it charges low like that ? it does put charge into the battery if I jump it in morning and run it for a while ie will start after dinner but doesnt seem to keep up if there are lots of stop starts ... maybe wishful thinking but might it be the battery ?

Try another battery. But do check the wiring, they are only spade connectors usually, can vibrate off ect.

if it's the old twin/triple coil regulator .... they can be adjusted for out put ..... bound to be summat on't 'net/you tube about doing it ..... otherwise I have a write up somewhere on how ... but could take some finding
as said ..... check all connections and demount the reg. box to look at the connections under it too IIRC there are some wire wound resistors under it with primitive crimp connections

Cheers Graham - going to be a job for the christmas yard session - it looks like the top of the dumper has to come off so I can access it
Its a 2002 model - didnt know I had had it so long !
