Does anyone get involved in installing wells on natural spring?
What do you use for the well and cover?

Find the spring. Pull in 5-10m using a land drain into a set of chamber rings preferably 3m or so deep and run the pump from there.

I'd avoid digging the well directly on the spring if its shallow as you can lose them.

My sister's house, has an existing spring and has plenty water but the well it's not in good shape on top of it, it's half way up a big hill in the middle of a Forrest, was put in with a corrugated iron ring of some kind and is not a proper lid on it by any means , has a pipe in it feeding a concrete cistern 5 or 6 meters down hill from it then her house is about 200M down from the cistern. Was looking at replacing the well over the spring but not really finding anything out there . Is concrete rings the go to option for this or any alternatives?

We need to reroof these tanks that gather water from a stream for a trust camping barn,

My parents spring comes into a silt trap then into a big concrete tank like a small swimming pool with a concrete roof

Concrete rings, or twinwall with holes drilled/Perferated
Personally I'd drop some concrete rings inside the Iron's with a 6"+ Gap, and then fill the surround with clean stone..... I'd not try to take the iron out unless you think you've a good chance.

I used to do a lot of spring water supplies with a plumber long since retired . We used Concrete rings and then placed limestone in the bottom for the water to come up through . I can’t even remember what the limestone was for but we used to get it from ledmore quarry up the west .

One thing I will add.
Clean Stone preferably wants to be Inert..... Limestone will obviously add limescale and Some Granites will make water acidic.... All about finding the right line. Worth testing the PH to begin with and adding the right stone to counteract.
