Just came across this and found it quite interesting from a cab view of how it's all done (It's late and I haven't many friends)😀

Can't remember the last time I saw scrapers in action. Probably some time in the 70's when they were building the A3M. Seemed the wrong machine for the job as they seemed to spend most of their time up to the axles in mud being pushed by a dozer. Many mornings I was woken just after 5am by the roaring as they struggled along.

The art for wheeled scrapers to be cost effective is high speed medium to long distance hauls. Modern site attitudes to speed have killed them as much as anything else. the bigguns will achieve 40 odd MPH

Trouble is not only that but the art of planning sites, sticking proper access roads and working in the dry is long gone... killed by the influx of useless university talent. :(
