3CX Transmission oil.

I wonder if anyone could help me at all please but I feel that I should say that it is a pretty silly question.
I have a Project 8 3CX with synchro shuttle transmission and I have decided to change the transmission oil and filter and clean/change the strainer. I have looked at the price of the oil on certain (!) sites and it's a crazy price for 20 litres.
I understand that it is a special transmission oil but we don't carry that type in the workshop. I wondered if anyone could give me a lead to a reasonably priced 20 litre drum of the stuff please ? I'm not looking for cheap and nasty, it's just that I think some firms are taking advantage just because the drum that they sell has got JCB splattered all over it.

You should be able to get your local ag dealer to match it to an API or SAE spec.

My NH backhoe just takes UTTO. I can't imagine your gearbox will be much different at that vintage.

Have you tried your local JCB dealer? They are sometimes as cheap for oli as anywhere else?

1992 through to 95 i think or up until they changed from slew pots to twin rams for slewing. should be easy enough to match oil spec i would have thought.

Mine is a '97 with the older twin-pot slew making it a P8 (as I understand)
I've got the Parts List, Operators Manual and Service Manual and nowhere does the word "Project" appear.
Once JCB settled on consistent serial numbers, that became a much more reliable way to differentiate between models.

Thank you all for your responses and help. My machine is a late 2003 vintage and she doesn't do much work nowadays but I used JCBs since 1969 in my farming and contracting business.
I did try my local JCB distributor and that's what frightened me pricewise. But I have found this which has the same code as the oil that is sold by the dealer and is quite a bit cheaper : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123730867991

i have bought different oils from them allway been a reasonable price and has all the right numbers and letters for the spec i needed.

sure a 98 machine i drove had the rams instead of slew pots i never fully understood the project numbers it seemed they went from 8 to 12 then 21 i was on an early project 8 and thought it was not as good as the last project 7 machines the last 7 i was on was a turbo plus it was a brilliant machine i thought the 8 looked more stylish and modern i preffered the older all metal ones.

Jcb 10w - Transmission oil. The filter used to cost about £4…. Times May have changed!

It used to be the cheapest oil they sold (other than sae30)
I swapped mine out every 250hours as I did loads of travelling. Go direct to jcb dealer..
