2013 Kubota KX16-4 track won't retract

Hi all,

In the last couple of days, my left-side track has had trouble retracting back into its min-width, and now today it won't retract at all but kind of shudders when the other side goes in. I am going to lift up the left track and likely remove the track assembly to have a clear out as I am thinking it is full of muck inside the housing and stopping the shaft from returning to a minimum width.

Thought I would ask on here if anyone has had anything similar and can save me some time investigating by pointing me in the right direction?

I can't post a link to a video of it struggling to move as I've just created this account.

Having had track retracting problems in the past two issues caused it. Firstly as you say, compacted muck in the tubes stopping it going back in. Secondly having tracked over something hard and brought up a burgh on the slider. Easy enough to spot if you have a mate who can operate the mechanism whilst you what what is happening.

Does your machine have wear pads in the slides that could have come loose or broken. It doesn't sound like the normal problem of a lip wearing on the inner part.
Although it might be that it's warn and allowing small stones to get in where they couldn't before

Yeah that is a good point, I've managed to get someone to lift up the machine and move it in and out whilst I have a closer look at the slider.

I didn't realise they had wear pads actually, I will inspect it this morning once my mate has it up in the air.

There are 6 bolts that fasten a plate underneath the final drive that look as though they would provide access to where the sliders go inside - has anyone taken this off to clean or is it sealed in someway for protection?

Not all machines have wear pads that's why I asked. As I'm not familiar with your machine

Hi all,

We lifted up the track and found that one ram appeared more 'stuck' than the other. I sanded as much as I could reach, WD40'd all around, gave it a little tap at the same time as retracting them and it now moves in and out smoothly. Assume it was just a bit of a bur or something caught.
