now they WERE a complete bar steward to start ..... even with 'the knack' ..... been there too

went to Le Mans for the 24 hour, as we did most years and a mate had now't to ride, having sold his siccle the week before (idiot) ..
so lent him my XT5 ....
there's five of us sat on the quay in Le Havre, waiting for him to appear off the boat ...
for a good 20 minutes ..

eventually appeared up the ramp ...
with two stevedores pushing ... ..
this BIGdocker came across and said he had one o' them ....
started it first kick :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ....
Pete never lived it down and all weekend we'd sit and wait for him to get started first, before thumbing our leccy hooves:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ... fun times :giggle:

I remember trying to give a mate a lift home one time. When I finally got it going I had a swollen foot from the ball to the heel.
I learnt soon after , if it had been left out in the rain I needed to strip and clean the points, then it would start fine. I've still got it although it's now in bits.

sold mine to a mate ..
he arrived at the work shop one afternoon .. his missus dropped him off all togged up to take it away ...
sorted all the paperwork and we wheeled it outside....

he kicked and kicked ... then the lid came off ...
some more kicking .. the Belstaff came off ...
he was now getting quite red in the face ..
was a big lad and I was worried he'd snap the bloody kick start off the way he was leaping about on it ...
lads in the shop were all quietly having a good laugh ..
went out and asked him if he'd like a whiff ...
jumped astride the old girl...and when I looked he'd got the kill switch off :LOL: ...
didn't say a word, quietly slid it on, got her up to TDC, gave it a stab and it roared into life:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
let it warm up, while he got his act together and off he went out the gates, giving it some 'Bell oil' as he left.:giggle::(

replaced it with an XT600 Tenere .. all the 500 should've been .. and wasn't .. still got it and ought to get it out for some fun ... 's a beast :giggle::giggle: ...... and starts well
just looked at the log book, hoping it was coming up for the 40 yr mark ... 1-8-84  ... 'nother two years yet

I bet he felt a right plum lol.
I always fancied a xt600 or a 550, they certainly got uglier as the new versions came out. I cant find the docs at the moment but im sure its a 80 or 81.
Ive yet to put it back togther, trouble is i can remember what its like to ride, literally no front brake and not enough grunt to lift the front wheel.
I need to get someone to build the motor really, I cant see me doing it.

Hagon said they didn't know if what I have is rebuildable, 'til they take 'em to bits .. at least it's mobile ATM .. taking said shocks off'd really knacker that :(

I can see me needing a set of shocks too. Would love to get some proper tyres/ rear shocks and take it round a Mx track. I bet the suspension would be a bit less capable that my last bike but would be a laugh.
