Both use a compressor.
A compressor plus mole and airspade are on my shopping list.
Anything to do with building around a protected tree seems to be charge what you like territory.

Be careful you can waste many an hour waiting for a grundamat to appear somewhere completely random ....I know

A while since ive done any but seem to remember it being when they got into some soft going they wouldnt back out.

We did a few road crossings for irrigation when I was in the u.k ...... when it disappears your in the lap of the gods basically.

They don’t like the ground to be too soft so for example in soft clay they don’t travel well, I think they call it swimming. I usually try to mole as deep as you can if the ground above isn’t very compacted they can head for the surface. I think they recommend as a general rule that you mole 10 times the moles dia in depth, so you want to be at least 450 mm deep with a 45 mm dia mole though I would be double that depth if I could.

Hose to the mole is non conductive so you can't put a signal down it to trace it. All you can rely on is ur ear to the ground. Unless you know the ground you have to resist the temptation to try and mole too far in one go, although often you've no choice. Tbh I very rarely use mine now as if you're job involves any of the ultilities companies following on after you they don't like moles (their own lads f**ked the job by putting pipes in 6 inch deep with them).

They scare me after a local lad on the grass went straight through the high voltage power supply to a town. He lived but last I heard still in hospital 6 months on.

I take him must have hit it setting the mole off then?

He was only going under a kerb line from what I understand. Not a proper run. No one could understand why he got the mole out but obviously couldn't ask him

I used to recon you needed £60 hr around 5 years ago for mobile blasting when you are unable to recover media & quite a lot of media goes through a 10 mm nozzle in an hour.

Plus white diesel nowadays!

Have a look in to dustless blasting as well if you are thinking about blasting stone work. Noise & dust are problems you will encounter with this type of work.

I'm sure it's dirty and a bit unpleasant but if it pays and there's work there? Can't be too fussy over here and I'm 99% sure something cool like a bigger digger or a loader would not earn a penny.

I think a mini loader (Sherpa) would pay for itself very quickly in your area.

No but I like the easy to store and multi purpose aspect of compressor and the accessories

Ah that could scupper it then. It's nearly all clay over here, sometimes hard but often wet enough to stick in the bucket.
