I think I’ve arrived at this point after some consideration on the best way to move forward with what I do regarding moving my own plant about and having ruled out a lorry in the short term I need something that is 7000kg gtw . I also want a van so when I turn up I’ve got all my gear with me . The used van market is really sparse just now for a low miles van with good sized engine that has 7000gtw . It’s not going to improve any time soon with the availability of new vans what it is .
I’m not going to buy the one the dealer has (C35 3250L manual180) I think I’m going to put an order in for a C35 3250L auto with either 3.0 litre 180 or 210 nag power it’ll be a long time before it comes but at least I know it’s going to come and I think this van will see me near to retirement .
Do the dealers all offer the same price when buying new or do they do different deals ?
If so what dealer does a good deal ?

everywhere different from my experience. We used to buy our vans from macrae and dick, bought about six vans from them in 8 years until we realised we were being ripped off and started shopping around. Now we look online at whoever has the van we want at the best price. Not so good if you are ordering a specific spec van then you’ll be better off local. Also we’ve found when you go to the local brand garage for like recall work or warranty stuff if you haven’t bought from them they mess you about a bit.
in some cases you can save £2.5k and don’t have wait for their schedule to work out For ordering.
the funny thing is the guy who we used to deal with at macrae and dick and we suspected of not giving us a good deal must have been found out and pushed out ended up at connon bridge who we were using for some stuff so we ended up moving from there also 😂

id definitely get the 7.2 tonner instead, wish I had. Yes there is the hassle of sorting the O licence exemption and taco exemption but the payload is definitely worth it.

How does that work Fred , can you pull 7.2 gtw with ordinary licence ? Does that van have less payload on account of being heavier as well?
what model would it be 50C 21 3520L ?
Wouldnt it also need downrated?

I have the 210hp 3l and it comfortably tows 3500kg with a full load inside. I’m also hoping it will seem me out to retirement. I had the same experience of looking for used, nothing about or the rare one that was available was more than the new price. You don’t seem to have an option of tyre choice and the ones that come with it have No grip, so if you are going off road, even onto grass you will need to change the tyres.
I was happy with my dealer, certainly a lot better than Mercedes, but as they are near Southampton, not really convenient for you.

I’d happily buy any where in the uk if the price is right and it wouldn’t effect my warranty . Did you go for the twin wheels Graham ?

still on a car licence as its under 7.5 ton. It physically exactly the same size as a 3.5 but you get payload.

There is the paperwork hassle of a restricted O licence but if you need a couple ton payload its worth looking at.

You'll only be able to drive a 7.5 tonner on ur car licence if you are old enough though fred. Most will be restricted to 3.5 ton gross

If they're are strong as people say, isn't something like this worth a shout? Got to be good for another 70k and still be worth something. No doubt a new van is better, but is it good value? And is it really less hassle? New vans can go wrong just the same as used.

I’d prefer to go used if I could get the van I want and I defo have a manual or an auto if buying a used one but I need an engine with a bit of grunt and probably twin wheel

They’re not far from me, seem to get a few of those in, possibly ex a-plant/sunbelt?

It’s what I do!
never bought a vehicle new, but a lot of machine tools, etc. ......... 's painful, but as long as it earns well the pain soon fades ..... my Kingsland metalworker cost me 15 grand in '92, but I'd bet it made its cost ten times over in the time I had it, in productivity and efficiency savings ... got me jobs i would not have been able to compete on without its capacity and speed .... buying new I got exactly what I wanted, in pristine condition, never been abused (and never was) and it got looked after carefully, by everyone. :giggle:

if you mean the Kingsland, you need lube on the punches to extend their life to the max ;) ..... and was a convenient place to park them ... if you wanted an oil can, that was where to look and always one to hand for punching op.s (y)...... and yes without the oil they squealed .. loudly ..... 38mm through 25mm plate with 115t behind it was enough to make anyone squeal :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
