Battery Chainsaw

Think this may have been covered but looking for quiet chainsaw , have a few petrol saws but to work on trees in garden on weekend they are a but anti-social.

Regarding existing kit I have some old 36v Dewalt kit at yard and some old Makita stuff at home which does but think I will be best starting a fresh with saw/batt/charger.

Any recommendations ? Just doing odd branches and few bigger bits so doesn't need to be something pro.

Same - 36v brushless Makita gear is good (especially for the money when compared to Stihl etc).

36v Makita here, can’t recall what model. The one with the longest bar I think. Absolutely love it.

I bought Makita battery couple of years back for the handiness of them for odd jobs mainly down to the fact i already had loads of batteries. So handy for odd branches little bit of hedge to cut off etc. Got quite a shock when i saw recent prices though I only paid £100 + vat for mine body only

I had the little battery Stihl and whilst it was nice to not have to start it, the batteries were not good enough.

A while ago when i looked cos someone was after one they had doubled but i think recently there's odd places selling them at more reasonable price but still a bit more than i paid.

Another vote for double battery makita here. Just watch the chain oil as said.

New Stihl ones just launched if you feeling flush . I'll be the outlier and say I love my Stihl but it has got the big battery which lasts for ages..
Tried DeWalt but was crap...no anti vibe etc sent it back

Other thing is if you dont have relevant tickets you can't buy the top handle Stihl but you can buy the Makita ..wtf blue doesn't obviously bite as much

Yeah. Sticks. Sticks between 8 and 20”. Still got the 084 for the big stuff.

The little Makita is absolutely ideal for small diameter firewood, just as a Renault Zoe is absoloutely ideal for your gran with offroad parking to use to nip to the shops twice a month.

The problem comes when tossers in power decide that people felling 100 tons a day and towing 3.5t fifty miles should also be mandated to use the same fledgling technology!

I've had my 36v Makita for 4 years now and it's been faultless. I used a mates Stihl 220 the other day and it is way better than the Mak- more like a 40-50cc petrol. But priced accordingly. The mak is good if you run Makita anyway as batteries are the expensive bit. I carry 3 pairs of batteries at all time to run various different Makita implements.

Looks like makita is favorite.... been down to garage at home and suprised to see batteries are similar to my old kit 18v but 5ah as opposed to my old 3ah.
Is this the one then ?

I think it's the duc355z I've got. That's got the diy tool less chain tensioner which mine doesn't. You can't beat bolts and a spanner for chain tension imo.

Somehow managed to lose that picture. Yeah, fully agree that it wouldn’t live doing this work every day, but as a pruning saw, it‘s okay. as said, it’s a useful add on if you’re already running a stack of Makita kit. My days of large scale felling and clearing are over, so it does me for what bit I do now.
