Oil level lister 3 cylinder

Hi should I fill oil to the mark on the dip stick .. I’ve heard the engine should take about 3 litres. When I removed and checked the original oil was 3 times higher than the marker. We’ve established that the engine is either a TS, TR or ST lister air cooled 3 cylinder . Cheers guys

Then I will have to stand by my opinion that your engine is a Petter P600/3
It is not a TS/TR, the rocker boxes give that away immediately. Whilst the rocker boxes are a very similar shape to an ST the rest of it is all wrong.
For a start the exhaust manifold is on the opposite side to yours on a TS/TR and ST. Maybe get some better pics of your engine. But I’m convinced that it’s definitely not TS/TR or ST. And I’m pretty sure it’s a P600/3, not withstanding the fact that those numbers are included in the engine serial number!
All of that is irrelevant for filling the oil to the mark however….. but definitely worth remembering if you need to order any parts in the future.

I honestly don’t know, I’ve never had a P600/3 myself, I’d be surprised if the sump capacity is much different to my TS3’s but I can’t recall how much goes in them. I’d simply fill it bit by bit until you see it on the stick and add as necessary to bring it to the correct level.

Not sure tbf … looked quite clear / clean on the stick but what came out of the sump was horrible !

A basic way of checking for diesel in the oil, is when you dip the oil, rest the stick on or drip a bit of the oil onto blue workshop paper roll, and see how quickly/the way the oil spreads on the paper, diesel diluted will go further/faster than just dirty (or clean) oil.
Try a bit of clean oil as well for a comparison.

If there is a lot of diesel or if the oils quite fresh Yes you can smell it, but it doesn't need a lot of diesel in the oil to start thinning it, sometimes not enough to easily detect the smell.

I’ve taken a couple of photos of the engine .. all jobs done now on the dumper but I’m at a loss on how to prime the diesel lines. I’ve tried a few things ie opening the injector nuts but still won’t start. I’m a little concerned about turning the engine over too much as I get a little smoke appearing from the engine itself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Just to add it initially run for 10 seconds or so before stopping. I’ve had the tank off etc so I predict it’s air in the system

Do you have fuel at each of these bleed screws?

I didn’t open the screws tbf I loosened the bolts below instead and fuel with a few bubbles came out

They are the injector pumps. You need to bleed them first
