Hi, can anyone advise me on what maintenance is required to avoid using easy start on the old lister 3 cylinder Diesel engine ? My first job on the list is to clean the diesel tank and replace the fuel filter. Could this help ? It feels kinda wrong spraying it in every time 👍👍

Correct winter grade of engine oil and tappet clearances.

As said..... another big issue tends to be Listers will start with ether on a crap battery..... Decent battery and starter to wang the engine over will also work wonders!

To be blunt don't be scared of Ether though.... Small doses it's fine and was for many years a manufacturers cold starting recommendation.

Could try stripping and cleaning starter motor. Certainly can't hurt, and a cheap place to start.

At the age it'll be it could have lost a bit of compression which doesn't help. Good battery and starter main things i used to find putting decompression levers up and winding over then putting levers down one at a time helped. Would fire up on two cylinders but tbh if ur at that stage there's bigger jobs to be doing.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
making sure the pump rack is in the cold start position'll also help a lot

Can you advise on what size amp battery would be a good choice for this type of engine 👍👍👍

100 amp would be fine if it's in good condition, but if you can fit a larger one in then do.

Best thing to do first is to try jumping it from a good jump pack and see if it starts better. Also, check you earth terminals everywhere- frame to engine/starter, batter to frame, battery. A poor earth will cause an engine to be hard to start and make it eat batteries and starters.

It’s what I do!
Easy Start!! It never ends easy! Pistons, Piston rings, head gaskets, bore damage, valve seat damage, valve damage, and others!
