8 tonner

I would probably buy the CAT if I was in the market for an 8t. As its me, I would have to give the JCB a very close going over as it looks a lovely machine and the options list is very tempting. But certainly wouldn't be disappointed with the CAT.
Here's the deal I saw on Facebook the other day. Speak to Barry Gass at Versatile, he's a decent chap, came out to see me on site when I had one hired and couldn't get it into POWER mode!
Only thing to note with jcb options list is they fluff it out a lot by putting buckets etc on it. Also a lot of the options on jcb are standard on other manufacturers machines. Got to be careful when comparing one against another

Are you serious Rory ? does it matter what colour the screen is ?
Black LCD screen. The need to cycle through Aux settings Everytime you stop. (I think even lift the dead man from memory)
I'm not one for worrying about creature comforts. But the KX080 hasn't improved in the cab at all, I'd argue that it's no more comfortable than the older white cabbed series.... There are far better diggers out there at present. And if you want a 3 piece boom then it's not even worth consideration......

Kubota, JCB, Taki, Cat, Case.... If keeping for a few years under warranty it'd be the JCB, if keeping long term it'd be anything but!

8 tonner or 12 tonner. It is not the footprint it is also being able to stand further away to get the bucket digging down. I am quite impressed with the Kobelco. But i do miss the Engcon when I jump in it! It has been handy having the little kubota on site with the engcon to dig around the piles. But when trenching between them the speed of the kobelco is pretty impressive. I can also chuck the dumper and 8 tonner on the same low loader. Not sure that would be the case if I went 12. The other thing I am happy about is going fixed boom. I can go full bucket across tracks when loading lorries. The JCB I had on hire last year scared me shitless when cross tracks. It was a smaller weight but that helped make up my mind to go closer to 8 rather than 6. I like the look of the new Cat and it does look to be well priced. But at £54k I would rather stick with my 3 year old and chuck some more money at Engcon when I can afford it rather than putting more on the drip!

With regard to cost.. it’s nearly 15k extra for a 8t over a 6T machine, which when they mostly use the same buckets(jcb range from 5ton to 10ton all use 3cx buckets!) it makes you wonder exactly how much more productivity are you getting for your cash?? For me personally I opted to save the 15k on a 8t and go for a 5t with tilty and go on holiday for afew weeks 😎

You do have a point but extra reach can't be knocked and i do think 8 tonners are well capable of running bigger buckets the 3cx size buckets has become the norm just because there so common.

Standard 8 ton 3 foot bucket compared to what I'm now running. Did think at first too big but handles it fine and you don't have to ram it full all the time

I run a 36" 13t profile bucket on one of my Takeuchi 175's.... Crap 3cx profile buckets have become the norm as that's what hire companies want.

Yep my work is light and I am considering going 6t and tiltrotator instead of the 8t next time -only doubt is we sometimes like to use concrete tanks that are 1.9t and I'm not sure there is a 6t that could handle them 🤔

buy plastic tanks and concrete around them 😂
After having a 85Z and a 67c I’m 100% happy I didn’t go 8t and had a 57c as a full time do everything I need to machine!

Was on this, which I think is/was and 308E, and yeh, what a lovely machine to drive, big cab, nice and fast, and extremely good at pushing.
When you start looking into them, it seems to be a very strong weight range with what the manufacturers are offering, there’s not really a clear front runner at all, think this’ll be when it comes down to the deal on the day and the reputation of the dealer

Yeah, I ran the 308E for a few months and really loved it. It was a hire machine with 6000 hours on it and it very smooth, compact rear on it and on some cold days it was a joy to stick on the heated seat for a few minutes. The windows rattles with those hours and the lack of a new wiper blade on the hired in machine were my only issues. Jeez, I actually miss it now.

Having driven a 8 t Kubota with 3 piece boom I can honestly say it's the worst balanced machine i've ever driven and I would strongly avoid buying one. There a pig to work on for routine maintenance and the cab makes you feel like your in the early 2000's again.... Black LCD screen 😂

JCB do a ten tonner which IMHO is the bollocks in terms of a general site machine. But quality of finish is the issue - Current experience with JCB is they are without a doubt the most proactive and eager to please company with cracking after sales factory support and some of the most operator freindly machines on the market at present...... But a 5 year old with Lego would do a better quality finish.... particularly on paint and PDI.... It can't be just the one machine I deal with either. The question I would be asking on it is whether it will be kept for longer than the 5 year warranty period.... if not, then get the JCB

just reviving this thread, whats the JCB 10 tonner like ?

Not a JCB fan at all due to their poor quality but have things changed ?

I don't know how you keep up with all the chopping and changing, no sooner do you buy something then it's up for sale! :ROFLMAO:
not really, only had the 3 tonner 3 years ago and sold her earlier this year. Not too hard to keep up with that even for you. 😂
