Winch on a digger?

I've got a job where I might need to winch myself out if i get stuck. I'm thinking I'll fit it on the dozer blade. Those ears must be strong enough to drag it out some slop or up a hill?

Lpg Eddie on the old forum had them mounted opposite end to the blade tucked right up out the way to avoid damage
Ontop of the blade seems a bit vulnerable

But if you are blade first and the blade is digging in then you need to lift /pull urself with the boom which would give worse geometry than trying to lift the blade and push if you are going backwards.

But tbh I don't think the winches are really designed for self recovery more slope working

E10? Might as well use a tirfor winch.

I've got a 13,500lb one coming for the E10.
I know it's a bit oversized but, at a later date, I might stick it on the disco and get that stuck in some mud too.

I will respectfully disagree. You can lift the front of the machine and pull yourself up and out of the shite, with the blade in front of you keeping it out of the shite, hopefully….
If you try that with the blade behind you then it’s an anchor.

I think we have our wire crossed

I meant blade and boom both facing the opposite direction of travel so as you push you lift the blade out so when you initially lift the blade clear of the mud you have dipper right in for maximum lifting power

Whereas if both blade and and boom are in direction of travel to lift the blade clear and then pull yourself you have to start with the dipper fully extended so reduce the leverage to lift and already stuck machine clear of the ground.
Made worse when some well used minis struggle to lift themselves clear of the ground at any reach anyway

but if you're facing downhill you'd want the blade in a similar direction, surely

Drive into Poo with blade behind you so if it starts to go south you can still get out......

Personally for a E10 I would be mounting the winch elsewhere..... Trouble with putting it on the stricken machine on a bog is you have no ability to alter the ropes trajectory.....

John craig now doing big flat plates on some lpg conversion rather than dozer blade with quickly removable pins so you can leave behind if it does bog down then drag it out with bucket from firmer footing.
