Looking for recommendations on laser levels, preferably something easy to set up for the academically challenged.
As long as it's in something stable, you should be able to put it on any surface, have had mine just on the box and have at time put it in walls or other surfaces.Ive got a spectra ll300n and I'm slowly getting to grips with it. The only problems I've had are,
It likes to be sat on its tripod, sitting it on a wooden sleeper is not good enough.
Also anything shinny can give you random readings on the receiver.
Yes mine won't sit on the floor it's fine on its side but it doesn't stand on its feet very wellIve got a spectra ll300n and I'm slowly getting to grips with it. The only problems I've had are,

I've got a dual grade topcon myself and as above not cheap. But having said that if you think you might make use of a grade laser get one with a display which allows you to put the gradient in you want. It's dead easy to work out the %grade you want and set up, far faster than grade matching with remote. Its also easier to check laser is still set to grade when there's a display telling you what's going on.Used to have Leica lasers, rugby 100 from memory, simple switch on and go - reminds me I need to sell it, just needs a new battery pack.
Now got a dual grade Topcom with remote, nice bit of kit, nice and simple for standard level stuff, with plenty of options when you get into it - wasn’t cheap mind you!
I don't think its ghosting on the receiver he's meaning but getting two beams at the receiver due to reflections off the laser from being near windows etc. Handy thing on topcon i have (and likely others) you don't have to have beam coming out from full 360 deg, it's split into quarters so you can select which quarter you want beam projected from. I honestly thought "why do i need it to do that" you'd be amazed how often i use itAs long as it's in something stable, you should be able to put it on any surface, have had mine just on the box and have at time put it in walls or other surfaces.
Not really had any ghosting on the receivers yet but my older ones were susceptible to beacons
Mine has that but ive never used itI don't think its ghosting on the receiver he's meaning but getting two beams at the receiver due to reflections off the laser from being near windows etc. Handy thing on topcon i have (and likely others) you don't have to have beam coming out from full 360 deg, it's split into quarters so you can select which quarter you want beam projected from. Level is great wish I had spent the extra on the better receiver

Hi Steve,Looking for recommendations on laser levels, preferably something easy to set up for the academically challenged.
Hi,Theres no mention of the automatic setting of the grade on the hv302. ( The biggest reason I got it) or how to use the radio remote it took a bit of playing to work out what all the functions do
ive had this exact laser for as few years. Works as said, setting slopes is a bit of a faf with the remote but works fine once you get used to it.Hi Steve,
As others on here have mentioned, you won't go far wrong with the Spectra LL300N Premium Kit.
https://www.laser-level.co.uk/ll300n-rotary-laser-spectra-ll300n-premium-kit.html
This is a fully self-levelling red beam rotary laser that levels on the horizontal. It is accurate to ±2.2 mm at 30 m, range of 500m, has an IP rating of IP66 (Dust tight / Protected against powerful jets of water) and a 5-year warranty. It is rechargeable but can also run on alkaline batteries.
As it is one-button operation, it is literally a case of you charging it for 6-8 hours (giving a 45 hour run time), screwing it on the tripod, pushing the power button and then after around 15-20 seconds as soon as it starts spinning you then know it's a level datum from which to work from. You then pickup the beam mounted using the Detector / Receiver mounted on the measuring staff.
In order for you to set slopes and gradients in both the X & Y axis (dual grade) you would also need to add the RC601 Remote control to the kit.
The Spectra LL300N come as standard with core function staff mounted Detector / Receiver which shows up, down and level, have a front and rear display and an audible tone. However, lots of customers choose to upgrade the Detector which has a larger pickup window as well as showing a mm / inch scale to see the elevation or drop display on the detector. e.g 10mm - 8mm - 5mm - 2mm - LEVEL. All the upgrade options are displayed on screen.
I hope this helps.
Best regards
