Probably similar in price but where you say not as flexible hydradig would have far more reach so be far more useful in other ways. I think the mecs are a brilliant machine and probably out on their own as a tool carrier but in reality the work and financial return to really suit one doesn't really exist in the uk. You'll know with ur menzi how there's a limited amount of dedicated work for them which pays enough to justify one but that's fine as they aren't that many walkers in the uk so there's enough work to go round and its work only suited to walkers. Trouble for the mecs is a lot of the work you'd use one for could be done with a conventional 360 for half the outlay.

Watching the videos of them on the continent, our whole work style doesn't suit them, if you could convince people to change there habits it could be a greatly profitable tool same as the hydradig
Especially in highway civils , the area i spend most my time in, with a change in planning and a bit of cooperation from the powers that be, having a bigger multi role machine on site coule save a great amount of time and expense and therefore reduce the amount of roadworks

The biggest thing they seem to try to sell them on is the skid loader capabilty which seems a great idea but in reality is it that useful? I mean how often do you dig stuff put it in a heap and then reload it? I tend to dig straight into dumper truck etc wherever i can. I guess the big market for them is as a tool carrier but its a v small market and so they try to make them appeal to the digging market by making you think its something you really need to be able to do.

On roadworks then yes the skid loader would be useful.
Due to the constant space restraints everything gets stockpiled often quite a way from the worksite.
Not only does this mean constant reloading of muck away out and new materials in, it also means a stockpile area that needs re grading afterwards.
Then you have movement of pallets of kerbs and other materials.
The fact that they can offset dig outside the width of the carriage which would be great for pulling out kerb lines.
I can see they wouldn't be much use on building sites for the most part but civils they would be the ultimate replacement for the 3cx.

But could you get the rate to cover the outlay? I'll bet they can swine juice back and forth carrying as well. Not so good after April next year.

New machines always sound a lot of money, but how would that compare to a full spec Hydradig which I guess are similar size, but nothing like as flexible?
There shouldn't be much in it for reach between the 11 and the hydradig according to there paperwork there was 2mm in it but I'm not sure I believe that as the Cat had more reach than the 9 and I would've said it is short of reach compared to a wacker /Kubota. A hydradig is about 10k I think less depending on spec.
I do quite a lot by myself or as a 2 man gang meaning I don't like using a dumper as it often means driving it myself the skid steer ability is quite good for that but nothing that couldn't be replacated with a telehandler bucket with some brackets welded on for any duck. I did like that you can get a kit to go on the pallet forks to the blade and it has a proper rating for them

It would have to be on price work, I don't think owner operator could make it pay.
ATM the way we work in this country is so inefficient when watching videos of how they do it. Especially when you see the amount of laborers on uk work.
If that machine gets replaced every 4 years and is £70 ish thousand more expensive than a 2.5t machine then it only has to replace 1 labourer on site salaried at £25000 a year then it has nearly paid for itself. Save a couple of laborers using some of the scandanavian techniques and it soon adds up.
We just don't think that way in this country.
Then some sites it could replace a dumper. Big Wacker plate mounted on the machine would replace a bomag 80 sat around on site that barely does anything. Sometimes there is a telehandler on site to bump out kerbs which again doesn't do an awful lot of work.

Yes and no. The videos you see may look great in face value but then when you look into then more I'm not as convinced. Biggest inefficiency in most work in this country is materials wasted and a lot of the scandi vids you see are no better.
Be far more efficient and less waste if the idol fu****g labourers on the ground were doing the job properly in many cases. A good man on the ground could easy justify his wages if they were any good.

Oh definitely one good lad is worth 3 rubbish ones but they either get promoted or start there own company because they don't want to be doing all the work while everyone else sacks it off myself and a good lad were often doing more work than 2 crap gangs😡

But surely if a machine can replace the idol fuckwits and leave the good men to do the skilled work it's a win around. Especially as the machine is sat idol as often as the laborers are sat idol. The machine driver's have a tantrum if you ask them to get there hands dirty and that's after they've already had a tantrum as driving anything smaller than a 13t is emasculating.
There is huge inefficiencies in the way we work that need resolving at some point and I think it would be very interesting to have a go with a mec on one of the sites I'm on to see if we could iron some of these out.
Or a 6.5t neuson duck.
After all doing the same thing repeatedly expecting different results is definition of stupidity.

Its the attitude of the people we breed these days that's the issue and it's why this country has had declining industry for years. Nobody gives a flying..... and nobody has to put their name to anything. Unless this changes it won't matter what machinery you buy. Fair play if you see something that you can justify the cost of which will make you're life easier then go for it. Long term I'd like a tilty on 4 and 9 tonner but until lottery numbers come up or there's monetary value in doing it little bit of get out and graft is no bother to me.

Unfortunately I'm only in the position to ask for machinery of a set list, however I can request labour easily, I would love one day to be in the position to have a go at things myself.
But instead I have to organize what is given to me.
I would rather have a machine that could replace labourers and have me and 1 groundworker on site and do everything between the two of us, rather than having a procession of people who don't really want to be there and do t really care.

It's the way forward mate.

I started out doing what I do now with five labourers and myself labouring as well as that was the way it had always been done. It was hard work and the labourers a complete nightmare. I now have a couple of machines, myself and one helper. We are many times more efficient, completing jobs in a fraction of the time and doing a better job. Neither of us have to work that hard and I make more money. Mechanising and doing away with labour was the way to go for me.
We did initially find that as we did the job quicker people thought they ought to pay less, but I can explain to most people that the equipment isn't free and wears out and most can see that.

A pair of magnets added to the laser mount to stick it to colum legs helps get it out the way for grading floors @Laser Levels Online
