In what country do we live where a government can dictate what fuel you use to run a piece of machinery on your own private property? This country is looking the plot I thought the socialists lost the last election?! I understand a rule for govt contracts maybe or if red was subsidised but as the druid says it's not subsidised, there's just less tax on it.
I think I'm going to admit defeat and join @Gecko down under at least they booed the vaccine at the Aus open final presentation

All very well saying that, but most of us can still get hold of the red I'd think. It's if they catch you on site- and it then becomes the same issue we have with tractors and dump trailers hauling illegally. Do you risk it and make money, or do you do it by the book and loose jobs/make less profit than the ones running illegally?

But surely if you mix it up a bit and your site bowser contains white or at least the one you show them it will be difficult to prove when you put what fuel in
It's not like road vehicles where they should never had cherry in them

well you're gonna have a right old carry on James .... with your mix of work that you do
Yes, not quite sure how this is gonna pan out yet....

What constitutes being a ‘farmer’? Do contractors get the same relief as farmers? Or are we stuffed if we don’t own a farm as such? I don’t fancy burning 6000L+ at harvest time, of road derv! But it might have to happen?

If that HVO stuff is viable and priced right it could be a good alternative?
Not sure how they are going to class the Shell GTL that I already use?

I can’t see the HVO being an alternative or any other options . It’s the income they want . They will just put a higher duty levy on it when the time comes

Risk it? There is petrol stations around here selling red from the pump, I bet they have loads of guys filling drums up then just pouring them into the car back at home.. like you say it’s still going to happen with plant for years to come..

There is already the same duty on HVO. It's more expensinve than DERV.

The problem isn’t the duty it’s the level playing field . If everyone paid the same duty regardless of the industry it would go some way to a level playing field . There may be a bit less work though as hiring excavators be they from a plant hire guy or a farm would go up in cost if we were all buying white diesel

Why is it an option then if it’s more expensive? Is it cheaper than white diesel but dearer than red ?

only one local .... can't see them being allowed to carry on as they are ..... would guess it'd be a/c holding farmers only ... and they ain't gonna go down that road - like getting blood from a stone -
I used to, at one time, sell 5-7000+ ltrs a week of gas oil/red, 'til all the RDCO bollox came in and reduced sales to a third .... I knew full well what most of 'em were doing with it, but it wasn't my place to police it ... as long as it went out my yard in cans, unless it was straight in a machine, it was fine by me. HMRC's job to police it outside/once it left my gates/yard.

one thing's for sure ... crane hire is gonna get seriously pricey(er)

Forgot to say ........
I have seen people filling their vehicles at the red pump ....
the garage has a legal duty under RDCO to police their sales ....
anything over 100ltr has to have full trace-ability, intended use, VAT number if applicable, and damned near inside leg measurement, with production of ID at point of sale.
Huge amount of paperwork monthly ...
this mob don't G.A.F. so really can not see them carrying on TBH

Even if we did get the go ahead to use a cheaper enviro friendly product that stores as well and worked as well as neat derv could the suppliers cope with all the plant in the land needing it ?

I doubt it...
They suggest that it is made from by products. Which I can only assume come waste produced by the food industry. If this is the case then there is obviously a limit to the volume that can be produced.

I couldn’t see a price, it just says call for a quote. Worth a phone call at least I reckon, just to find out for sure?
IIRC reading it last night it said it was 5% dearer???
