Slew ring removal

Hi all, following on form my previous post just getting around to removing the slew ring from my mini digger (terex hr18). Any tips for safe removal? I saw some places where the entire undercarriage is lifting up and once disconnected the undercarriage is lowered. Is this a better way to split? Also there this one bolt underneath tight between the balde ram which I can only get on with a open end spanner, if the hoses where al disconnected can I manually rotate the machine only need about 1-2 inches?
Much appreciated for any input

The awkward bolt, are you saying that if you move the upper structure, then you can get to the bolt?

if so remove it first off, before disabling the machine

Yeah being the novice I am the machine is disabled 🙈. If moved I would get a socket in it

Oh right. Would have been no issue to remove the awkward bolts first, you could safely take half of the bolts out, if you were sensible on the location of the ones you are leaving in.
Are you removing the pinion/slew gearbox?

Thanks. In terms of lift up upper part or lower under carriage, does it really matter? The slew gear looks as if there is 4 bolts holding in down and hydraulic hoses connecting into it. Other than marking all the pipes, anything else I should look out for.

Personally I’d jack the top up off the slew ring.
Obviously you’ve also got to disconnect or remove the rotary coupling.

Are you not going to replace the pinion, if you are replacing the ring gear?

Remove the part 8.010 which includes the pinion

So if I disconnect the motor/drive/ pinion and remove it, rotate the cab to get at the difficult bolt and then raise up to split apart. Afterward remove the slew ring itself which will be connected to undercarriage. Is there anything else I need to be aware of or look at when this far?

Looks like you might be able to leave the rotary coupling in places and just remove the hoses from the top.
Jack the top up, support it with a beam of some sort, under the back, so you can pull the undercarriage out the back. Possibly using a pallet truck if you’ve got one?

Biggest thing is be careful, don’t take risks, jack it up carefully and support it well.

Thanks for all the help and guidance much appreciated. This started as a small project and now has grown legs! Decided to have the jib and dipper re pinned and bushed- a case of didn’t think it was that bad it was was! Have another job to remove the king post pins which don’t want to move.

Not good I am afraid, I can’t seem to budge the bolts that hold on the slew motor (part 8.010) above. Is there a away of rotating cab without remove of this.
