As per a similar post, I'm often looking on here and so about time I joined. Plus, I have a new acquisition, as per my picture/avatar. A 1972 Iron Fairy Sapphire 6 tonne, to go with and support my Henry Cooch 1 tonne JC20. I am an extensive tinkerer but work as a sparky on boats. Reside in sunny Cornwall (West Country Mafia) but work takes me far, far away.

that Simon was probably made in Tredegar ... had a big place up there .... 'til one weekend they moved the entire factory in 60 hrs ...... without telling the staff .... lock, stock and barrel .. must be at least 30 years ago .... was some feat .. staff turned up Monday 08.00 to an empty unit

12.00 - 20 Barum Traction grip on the Fairy?? used to run them on my Rapier and the front end of my Grove TMS 180 ... good tyres ... what's the motor in her ... assume 4sp box?

So, here's the story. Arranged collection of crane for Friday afternoon. (Arranged earlier actually but different story). Need to find easy way to turn pictures - was upright when I pasted it!

Limited gear selection and an oil leak, plus hadn't really prepared a space for it to go.
Had to park at a neighbours farm until space was clear. Parked her up, fixed leak and then had to go away for work. It's a 6 pot but embarrassingly haven't had time to check motor. Ex MOD, was expecting Ford but looks like a Perky picture I've seen, maybe even yours. I've found 2 or 3 gears in the box....just... but probably a 4 speed. It's 1972 so should be BHCC but has a Jones book with it. Leak was from old hydraulic pressure feed to dash gauge. Need to try and find facility / tools for making Bundy pipes. I'm used to brake flaring bores with copper or kunifer but now need to work with bigger size pipes. Air reservoirs are 'tired' but functional. Will get to play more when home soon. Have managed to get a Loadwise pdf. set up manual, so I can get a better feel for the load cell / dynamometer.. Unfortunately, someone in their passion to help, poured a load of diesel in the Hydraulic tank and so that will be the first challenge for me to sort when home. As ever plenty of other stuff to do first...

when you travel it, it will ride and grip much better with the boom to the rear and tail weight over the drive axle .... I have a LOT of experience with the Weighload systems and used to maintain and calibrate my own ... even to the extent of replenishing load cells with new bladders and meths ... the capillary tube is the usual cause of most faults .. they crack .... if the outer looks dodgy the inner will almost certainly be foobar-ed .. deep pockets required .. should have a full workshop manual for the Saphire ... somewhere .... perhaps two .... will have to dig them out
