Hi.
I’ve got a pel job ed750 dumper.
It stopped working, seems to be no power to fuel pump.
changed fuel pump. Nothing
Hard wired pump to battery, pump works engine runs for a few seconds then dies.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

What's the condition of the fuel in the tank, has it been sitting and got water in it? Is the a bowl on the bottom of the fuel filter that drains off the water in the fuel. When did you last change the filter?

Fuel is new. Cleaned first filter. Second filter is sealed. Feels like there is some kind of a shut off switch somewhere?

Just because it's a sealed filter doesn't meant it's not f***ed/blocked solid! Bypass it to test.

Also, some injection pumps have a tiny filter in the inlet.

Thanks. Will bypass it in the morning now.
it’s been doing my head in all day.

OK,
Speaking from recent experience on my Pel-Job digger, I think they both have the same Mitsubishi engine. Check the power supply to the fuel pump and the solenoid stop plunger on the pump as they are on the same circuit.

Symptoms very similar. Mine started cutting out after maybe 30 secs running, then cranked and wouldn't start. The pump solenoid was closing and killing the engine. The glow plug circuit seems to keep the plunger energised for a short time, hence the 30 sec run before cutting out. Disconnecting the feed to the stop plunger kept it running but only if the fuel tank > 1/2 full, gravity and the injector pump was able to create enough suction to draw fuel.

Took time to investigate believing a broken wire or bad earth. Tracing went back to fuses only to find the previous owner (twat) had wrapped the blade in copper wire. The copper hadn't melted but worn through.

That kind of sounds like this. It would cut out but start again. But now won’t start unless I run a wire from battery to pump. Then runs for about 30 seconds then cuts out.
I have checked the fuel line and am happy the fuel is getting through.

Would there be a shut off switch somewhere as a safety?

Is the pump still running when it cuts out then?

Are you using any easy start or similar to start it as may just be running off that

does it cut out on idle or can you get higher revs on it? I’m not familiar with the engine but maybe the throttle linkage is working back past idle whilst it runs?

I reckon powerfab has prob hit the nail on the head re the solenoid

Hi there

I have a peljob ed750 dumper with a mitsubishi engine

She is running for 30 seconds then cutting out, I've checked the fuses and although one had gone, this didn't make a difference,

Anybody any suggestions ?

Is it getting fuel? check for small filters hidden in fuel line banjo as Doobin has said above.

She's got fuel,

When you start her, she starts up , runs and then cuts out, the solenoid has power when disconnected.

We've replaced a very expensive box the back of the relays and even with that of it does the same

I assumed an ED750 would be of a vintage to not have expensive boxes & just have electric fuel solenoid on the injector pump.

If you can remove the fuel solenoid and then see if it runs to rule it out. The solenoid might have two lives to it one to open it and then one to keep it open. If this is the case the solenoid could be the issue or the electrics may be at fault when switching from opening solenoid to holding it open.

when you disconnect the 2 wires from the solenoid, she runs fine, If you reconnect the solenoid while she's running, she runs fine, if you turn the key on and off while still running with solenoid connected, 30 seconds she turns of again

Difficult without actually seeing it first hand to advise where to start as i can't get a picture of how complicated the wiring is but the age a pel job has to be it can't be that bad. Could even be as simple as ignition switch. You really need to check with multimeter what you're getting at the solenoid first.

Are there any bonnet switches or low oil pressure/overheat sensors on it? Ignition modules will sometimes override these for a while during/after ignition which would give you your 30 second delay. We sometimes have similar issues with chippers that have control boxes, they can also get confused if started before allowing the pre-heat to count down to zero
