Way back in the day when I bought my first Racal Optrel it annoyed me that when I turned into the light it went all dark, the cheep Impax from screwfix doesn't. Fortunately an old dark lens from my much missed split screen fits in so I am enjoying the experience.
Really surprised that we can see it ...
... got too used to looking up at a low cloud base when anything interesting was happening, though Concorde did sound nice going over

Very disappointing Eclipse. Gridlock up here on the moor and it felt like a cloud coming over!

had two handhelds out with E10 lenses ... got great views to 70% and then we got 'clouded' ... didn't see it again 'til it was back to about 40%
news/media keep saying it's the best since 1999 ... both of us can recall watching a (virtual) total eclipse since we've been here in 2010 from the drive outside the door , mid morning - guessing 2011/12 - will have pix on a hard drive - it deffo went a LOT darker than it just did

me too - all I got was halation from the EW10, 3mm glass, even with a glass hard against the lens looked fine to the naked eye though

The light diffused through the trees made a nice pattern of overlapping crescents
Pity that the sellotape over the broken glass on the phone spoil the look

Agreed. As usual media have over hyped it to death.
Oh and telling us not to use any electric during it as the grid will blow up. (Aka they may have to use gas)FFS do they think we're all retarded.

I'm suspecting that the one I'm thinking of was about the time that the last Concorde flight went into Filton. I am beginning to learn that my memory probably isn't as good as I used to think it was

I remember that one, was about the same...went abit dull for a moment or 2 and then carried on as normal. It was more mid day iirc

That’s the one. We were having a kitchen fitted and the fitter, the wife and myself took turns with the welding helmet. It was darker than today. The one in 1999 was total and lasted several minutes. I can remember at primary school in the sixties learning about eclipses, and being told the 1999 one would only be visible from the tip of Cornwall. Speaking of which, haven’t heard from the West Country contingent Yet. Probably still hiding under tractors or shouting at the moon not to eat the sun.

Was intending to watch it at South brent, then realised I could'nt drink more than one can of Old Mout cider and drive home.... So I sat at home and drank 5 cans.
It went dimmit but not dark, glad I did'nt bother, 3/10

we had a few bevvies with the locals and watched the eclipse through various welding masks luckily it was visible down the street from the bar - bit of daftness for a couple of hours

Meh. It was so hot and clear weatherwise that it just went a bit dusky for 20 minutes then brightened back up. Fuss about nothing really . I went in and cooked tea. The 1999 was an anticlimax as well.

Yup. I won't be attending another Eclipse

Yeah pretty naff the last 1 was way better
