When I used to run my disco on biodiesel in 20l cans I had a nice simple can mount plunger pump.. was easy to use …

Was literally just looking at that from another place selling it. Probably the closest thing to want I'm after if the disco tank isn't a goer

Yeah that looks handy and a lot cheaper option than buying a ready packaged tank and pump- there are 70L tanks available I've just been looking at and then could use this to extract it from. Wonder how many refills you'd get from just a straight car battery- not the one in the disco.

Loads - I’ve got a 100l tank from Aiden @CPS that has one of those pumps on it and I just run it from a loose car battery - it lasts for ages.
I’ve also got much the same pump that I use for dispensing from my fuel cube (900l) and it’ll empty that several times over before draining a battery.

One garage I go to get face on with dispersing into 25l tubs despite all been labeled up and correct. (Usual case of little knowledge and been left in charge) so I purposely take 4 pumps room up to fill the digger direct from the pumps and don't rush in doing so.

pretty sure (from memory) that you're only 'sposed to use 20l 'portable' cans on a public forecourt and must be (as you say) properly marked up ... would have to look it up ... deffo 10L max for petrol

What containers can be filled at a petrol station?​

Only 'suitable portable containers' can be filled with petrol ie:

  • plastic containers up to 10 litres
  • metal containers up to 20 litres
  • a demountable fuel tank
Suitable portable containers are defined in Schedule 2 (para 6) and Schedule 3 of the regulations. UN approved containers are an example of such containers.

cheers Matt wires crossed a little on the 10L cans .. and thinking about it I have filled 20L jerries with petrol in the past.
Looks like anyone objecting to demountable tanks is objecting on a purely personal basis or I wonder if they're meaning demountable tanks like you'd use on an outboard motor and not a tank to dispense from again :unsure:

Never had any problem filling up 20L drums or the 250L bowser over the last few years, very rarely buy bulk now unless I know I’m going to be burning through afew thousand litres over afew weeks.

Do none of you guys not have bunker sites? I've got two very handy. Honestly couldn't give a flying F what you fill. One isn't even manned .
Our shell has two truck pumps round back out of view...filled all sorts over the years 😳🫣

In Devon many things are harder to get to. Its a big county with odd roads. Fine if you go east - west but not otherwise. I have spent today at a training college that is in the opposite corner of Devon to me. 3 hour round trip!. Some parts of the county are 2+hours away from me in a van.
