Saw this ad and became tempted. Premium brand rattler for a hundred quid. Sign me up.

Then hazily remembered someone here saying that the likes of Toolstation and Screwfix sell very much lower end models from the pukka brands and there’s an amount of false economy. Too good to be true or still deserving of the front page?

That’s only a screwdriver, not a big-tight-nut-undoer (in case that’s what you are looking for).

As much as I dislike yellow, for a hundred quid with 2 batteries I can't see it being far wrong if used appropriately?

But if you're looking to get started with a smaller power tool range, I cant recommend the milwaukee m12 gear highly enough

That's only got 2ah batteries. I find 4-5ah are a good size for shuttering and landscaping type wood work as it tends to be larger longer screws.

If you are looking for good value for money mainstream brands, look at the brushed gear that was top of the range a few years ago, but has been superseded by brushless. They still sell it, they are still good tools capable of work in a commercial environment. Just not quite the performance of the brushless kit. Obviously it's a case of picking and choosing which tools you want max performance from. Something like an impact wrench is likely to be a better bet as brushless. Whereas I have the top of the range Makita drill and realistically it's heavy and pointless as there is little circumstances to use the extra power over the brushed one.

It's highly likely it's a specific dumbed down model for them and 2ah batteries are bit lame.

Still can't get over what I paid for the riviter- 210 quid with battery and charger. Any comparable alternatives are 3 times that, and twice the size!

have had an air one of those for years .. can never keep the bloody belts on it no matter how much tweaking I give it ...... not that I ever have much call for it TBH

i have a m12 3/8 impact wrench and it really is a good tool well impressed with it.

That’s dead cheap - I bought a dewalt collaboration version about 5 years ago and that was at least double the money then. Hellava tool though

Most of the mainstream stuff is I believe. Certainly some of my Makita stuff is and I believe my mates Milwaukee wrench is too....

Milwaukee all the way for me M18 stuff got a great 3/8" impact driver that I use nearly every day so compact and 350nm torque I used to use Makita but after a few issues with gearboxes going I took the plunge and swapped can't rate them highly enough

Same catalogue. I’m pretty sure I handled this in a shop the other day. The forward/reverse switches didn’t agree with me. And more expensive. Not necessary for me, even if it is better. I’ll give it an easy life.

I can’t help but wonder whether Milwaukee isn’t on the front page on a nice deal because it’s the cool brand atm. And given a couple of years, Dewalt will be cool again. They’re all pukka brands.

That's on big reds counter here for £90 odd quid.
