Hi I have an old thwaites dumper which has developed a loud clunking noise when accelerating in all gears. Made worse when loaded. Any ideas on this ?
Thanks
Thanks
Thanks I shall check the shaft joint. I did wonder if the drive chain on the clutch was jumping as it seems very slack. But the shaft joint seems more likely now you've mentioned it. It's hard to work out where it's coming from by one's self when driving it. Thanks again.Prop shaft joint?
Thanks will check that too.Rear axle swivel pin?
Thanks for your help all seems clear underneathDragging a bit of fencing and a post ?
they had covers?????If it’s clunking badly it may be the sprockets worn out can you take the covers off the clutch?
They are a bit worn but as you an see the chain is very slack too but as you suggest the sprockets are probably the cause. Any suggestions for getting spares ?If it’s clunking badly it may be the sprockets worn out can you take the covers off the clutch?
on my Alligator you can adjust tension by adjusting motor position ..... that looks to have an adjuster on the gearbox ? could be missing a nut or two

clunking could possibly be the g/box hopping about as the chain takes hold ?
did you take a look at that bolt I highlighted ... looks like it ought to be attached too ?Just moved the motor over to the right and that has tightened up the chain right enough and clunking has stoppedwas a nice Sunday morning job with plenty cursing involved!..... its running so well now I guess I had better fix the brakes
