I was cutting the side of the drive last night when my countax A2050H stopped suddenly {not gradually} managed to get it to reverse slowly for a wee bit then stopped going backwards as well belt is fine and spinning ok are these gearboxes repairable or is it a new gearbox job a quick look and depending on what box it is they are around £800 plus fitting just dont know if its worth spending that sort of money on it
thanks

Looks like they run a TuffTorq K62. Take it off, and if nothing obvious is sheared then change the oil. There's You Tube videos available. Prime it with a drill chucked to the input shaft and you can bench test it once you've done all that. Check your seals for leaks and check your cooling fan above the gearbox.

Most likely you've gotten grass build up on the cooling fan and coupled with the hot weather yesterday the oil has overheated and lost it's shear factor. Or it's lost enough to stop working.

Look up the specs on the TuffTorque website for the oil grade, they are quite specific.

It’s what I do!
A friend of ours had one of these, which had bearing issues and a seized mag clutch bearing due to wet grass and being left outside!

I had a stick get up in the fan which shed all it's blades ... wasn't right 'til it had a new one

Until I retired in 2012 my business was the Tufftorq Service and Parts distributor for the UK. Now it’s Uni-Power . Www.uni-power.co.uk
01371 875331.
We used to rebuild those boxes and all the parts were available . Appreciate that I’m a bit out of touch these days but a sudden failure such as you describe suggests a drive failure to the ‘box . Worth a look at the input pulley on top of the ‘box . They were known to strip their splines. The good news was that the input shaft could be changed without splitting the ‘box.

Even a new pulley and shaft were not always a precision fit so we always used Loctite to stop them fretting from the outset. Back in the day, we issued a service bulletin which may be lurking somewhere on the net.

is there enough boss on the pully to install a couple of grub screws Angus? ( @modelman093 )

just had another look and the inside of the pully is completely smooth where the splines should be so would have to make some kind of spacer so the pully sits central on the shaft

If you put the pulley on the shaft can you then drill a hole down the join between the two parts and drop a dowel pin in to work as a key?
