Who uses tyre chain or the webbing equivalent and what's best to go for?
My sister wants a set for the front of her VW Tiguan for her Xmas and has detailed me to get her some 😄

It's just the last 1/4 mile off the road up to her house, it doesn't get cleared and there's a farmer further up the road that has tractors and 4x4's that leaves the road packed and her car just slips on it.
If the main road is bad she doesn't go out and the patient's at the hospital where she works just have to fend for themselves 😄

I always thought they had to fit really perfectly then I watched Diesel Brothers🤣 an approx fitting set on a 700bhp hellcat jeep at full chat 😎
Cousin had a set of pewags but you don't want to put them on to often🙄 bit of a fag . I did look the other day actually and Amazon had some konig?? sets around 150 for 18s so she might be less how good they were I've no idea.

Chains are a pain to fit in the cold and dark!!! No experience with the other options that are now available

Is it really worth the bother fitting them for 1/4 mile. Surely a set of really good winter tyres on a spare set of rims would be way better.

My thoughts ...👍 Saw a Tiguan on decent ATs a bit back apparently pretty capable farm truck

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I had a set of chains when I drove a Defender. Test fitted them each year to make sure I could remember how to, but never used them in anger. Too much hassle to fit in bad conditions, then have to take off again as soon as tarmac visible. A good set of tyres is a much better option.
still have them in the garage somewhere.

Has she tried reversing up. Always find if there's a slope and front wheel drive they go up much better in reverse🤣

What about a load of those zip-tie snow ‘chain’ jobbies? Depending on what sort of wheels are on the car they would almost definitely be the most straightforward to fit. Probably a load of crap but disposable and likely to be a lot better than standard car tyres for the short run your sister needs them for.

Auto socks are the mutts Nutts. Been using them to get ourselves out of the s**t on the odd slippy situation for the last 13 years. Mandatory kit for every van in the fleet. RWD get 2 pairs as you need steering and traction. FWD only need a pair. Easy enough to put on. For about £60 they are a no brainer. Snow and Ice is rare in Devon, but it creates havoc when it arrives. A set of snow socks can get you home!
