If your Grant Combi is working properly/wired properly and has the DHW control switch live then it should always maintain the primary store ready for instant hot water. Sounds like something wrong to me. Fault could depend on which model you have as they have evolved over the years.
was fairly recent when i bought the place so say 12-ish yr old .... has a switch for heating and hot water or just hot water ... I've always left it on the dual setting  ... also has a wireless thermo plumbed in for the heating ... hot water demand / pressure drop, triggers the boiler to light up and heat the heat exchanger ..... but is (as said) 'kin slow if the heating ain't been on -- fkn dire TBH -- 3-4 min.s, 'fore it starts to warm :(

Be interesting to know exactly which one you have. 26 or 26e. Does it have 7 or 8 led lights on front?

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ..... one I think ......... just got the paperwork out and it's a Vortex Combi 26 -- fitted June '08 .... this looks like it - roughly (net pic) ... been a few months since I was last kneeling in front of the damned thing

The thing is, the EPC guys disagree with you all! Oil fired combi gets us much higher EPC rating, gas combi drops us afew ratings! I’ve no idea why, don’t really care what they give us but I have to hit certain targets on new builds/conversions so just go along with it!

Another Problem with gas is we’d need LPG, thus making us pick between flo gas/calor etc which is just hassle! Oil you can at least shop around.
how odd our epc man says the opposite on oil and lpg ,odd old system

EPC is a s**t system. Bottle LPG scores very different to Bulk LPG and different to Nat gas.

2008 you’ve got a first edition vortex with a silly double PCB+relay system. The absolute best thing to do is replace the entire control panel for a single PCB set up (same as fitted 09-date) which is pretty easy to do if you’re an engineer .. it will probably sort your HW problems out.

I'll find a photo tomorrow. There are a few options depending on model and internal or external.
Ps. My Grant vortex combi takes 6 seconds to deliver hot water to nearest tap.
like WOW!!:oops: ... it's an internal condensing combi ..... our nearest tap is probably 5 ft away

Just found out that both my local TP merchants are closing on Friday. The staff member who told me said they only found out yesterday…. All a bit odd
pulling in of belts a few notches would be my guess .... where's the next nearest ???

It was talked about during the covid thing,
It was over 2 years ago
HQ probably sacked all the staff in the 165 branches, shifted deadweight into them then suddenly the branch has to shut down, what a shame. All deadweight and crap branches gone 👌🏻

Just heard from my Brikkies today, the big sites around us are no longer going gung ho, no new plots to be dug until one sells, ie your all off hired until we sell what we have got, echoed across a lot of the sites in the northwest! Expect some 13tonners and 6/9ton dumpers flooding the market very quickly!!
Also Jewsons started ANOTHER spending offer this week!!
