Kubota kx71-3 pump whine slowed hydraulics

the trusty old workhorse who has done us proud has hit 4600 hours and has slowed right down and developed a whine like a slipping fan belt but its not the fan belt and its coming from the pump area.

guy driving it last weeks when I was away said it'd slowed down, I checked hydraulic oil level and it was a bit low so went to to pit up and the filter holder wasn't there!

some fishing later and an arm in very hot hydraulic oil on a hot day the suction filter was not on the pipe spigot it should have been on, lay in tank sideways not sure how long this has been like that but can't pop off unless the main lids off on hydraulic tank. fitted back on and the machine wouldn't move!

anyway ive fitted a new filter and it'll move but its slower and this whine.

im thinking the worse and pump has been contaminated or pilot pump on end and seems to be running hotter than usual when sat in it unless that's just current heat wave

fitter wants it back at yard to test pressures and said to hook breaker up and test with breaker as that's non piloted to see if its main pump or pilot pump.

kinda of knew it was time for a new 3 tanner but was hoping to eek a bit more out the old girl

McLean's have a lovely tidy 71-3 on steel tracks at the mo, £19k odd, 2016 with 3000hrs. Absolutely mint.

Strong money that, I think I’m ready for a change. She’s been good tool but cab is small and basic, won’t lift bulk bag off lifting eye, won’t load share well so tracking and arm etc think they’re are lot better 3 tons out now. @Gunners has got me tempted by the jcb god for bid haha

Agree thats strong money !
Think you lads would make any door look small tbh but do you need to trailer it ? If not then you'd get better used value if you move up a bit weight wise - more reach/power and it still fits where your KX71 would go.

A kx91 seemed to fit that description spot on, only problem the cab was still the same.

Needs to be trailered currently and I know 71 is pushing it on weight

I'd say back in 2016 they were low 20's to buy new - 3000hrs on her and only 3k off the price would be resale of the century!

The 8026 cab isn't its best feature although the door is a bit wider than the old Kubota. But she sure can dig. And its not just me saying it now - they get a lot of love on the below 8t group on FB

The price they were new is almost irrelevant though the cost of that class of machine now has more bearing plus the covid tax thats been added onto everything.

You'd buy a new one for less than £30k today (if you could find one for sale). Lets be realistic, its probably a 16k machine at that age with those hours? How tidy it is will be attractive to someone and might be worth an extra £500 over another one but unfortunately its not much more if its nice or destroyed. 19k is a lot but good luck to the seller - you can always negotiate down I guess

I think they go in high on most prices knowing everyone hammers them, they do a lot of export though so if they have stock and someone wants it they will pay the asking!

Also to add insult I got offered a brand new kx57L in 2016 for £36500 doesn’t everything from afew years ago seem like such a steal nowadays!

Exactly. The same/equivalent machine now is £32k. It does seem expensive I'll agree. But tbf I did a lot of looking at couldn't find much out there that was cheaper for the same age/hours. It's condition was exceptional, was going to put a link up to it for discussion but seems it's sold now...

I'd agree ...its prob the best thing to do right now with the way things are going and let's be honest you'd have to be a bit of a rouge to try get shut as is so it's needs putting right anyhow.

Unless the oil was very dirty, then it may be you have a leaky filler o ring, and I have service in the past Kx 71-3 @ 6000 hours plus!
