do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
What as in an enforced 4 day working week? f**k that, Surely self employed will just do what they want regardless. And even PAYE to a certain extent. It's a five day working week currently but plenty running 2 jobs etc. Can't see it working myself, money doesn't grow on trees, if folk can't get enough hours in and the end product/service isn't costing more it's never going to add up.
what they gonna do ? ...... go around arresting anyone working more than 4 days - joke .... country'll sink deeper into the hole full of sh1t it's sliding into already ..... HTF are they planning on paying all the 'social' bills with people earning less and lower revenue collected ... grey/black economy will just grow exponentially

I haven't really seen it on the news or social media, a few of our customers say they are trying to get themselves aligned for it in case it happens.
I don't know how they think it'll go that far but they are already investing towards it 😕

All in the plan

It is quite common on large projects in Norway where you have workers from all over the place to work a 10 hour day Monday to Wednesday and 7.5 hours on Thursday with Friday off
I've Done a lot of it and I like it ;)
I could've happily lived with that .... ten hr day would've been bliss ... mine averaged 11 or 12, five days a week - some times six days

In the winter of 2011 I had a dozen times sat in the excavator from 7am to 3pm almost got home then the phone rings with the message that I have to take the truck out and salt the roads salt from 4pm to 7pm then drive in and install
the plough
plowing through the night
the next day driving away snow from the center of the city
to 7pm and back in the digger 7 am That's 36 hours straight without any longer Stop then the time It Takes to throw down a hot dog at the gas station about every 5-6 hours

How many Office Rats would have Accepted that ???

The 4 day week is something I aspire to achieve. Working 4 longer days to have Friday off sounds ideal, but clients just wont accept it - they want you working 5/6 days a week 10 hrs/day, and materials will always still be delivered on the day you aren't there!
Would take a huge shift to change the attitude, but personally I speak for myself when I say I'm over the super long days and 7 day weeks. Sure sometimes it has to happen - but the last 3 years I've got the impression that its become the norm for many of us to be working flat out while our clients are off on holiday or pushing you to get something finished so they can enjoy it for summer. It doesn't even calm down in winter anymore.
I'm not working myself into an early grave, there has to be a way to have some balance as a small business owner. Has anyone actually achieved this?!

As hard as it is……sometimes you just have to say no!!
I have had most of July off to have some school holiday time with the ten year old in the house. But in fairness my wife was working full time during this period and that pays the bills!!

I don't seem to struggle. Had plenty of time off these last few years. I'm 54, i own everything I've got. I seem to do a couple of projects a year then in winter if nothing on i help my mate doing land drains.
I can't see much point in working your arse off. Do things you enjoy while your still young enough to do things.

I've been trying for 4 days for years without success, like you said people want you there at least 5 days a week yet ½ of them work from home or short weeks!

In theory when you are your own boss saying no should be incredibly easy, in practice its a bit different i find, although i do now find it easier to walk away from jobs i don't like the look of, or people i just don't want to work for.

In the u.k it was 12hr days as a norm ....I went on my own in 2004 and thought I would have a different going on !
I often still do the long days, today was 14hrs ...but in the last year or so have started to say sod it and I have a week day off here and there in between jobs when the chance occurs.
Its very hard to get the balance right imho.

I've been finding that on the congested New build jobs we do I finish up doing longer days just so I can get stuff done after the brickies and others finish at 4.00, never enough parking space, restricted access ext. Generally to many bodies on one poxy little island and we're try to build yet another bloody house.
