Wankers can't get the weather right day to day let alone 100 years. Forecast here rain this afternoon I think it was. Not stopped all day
well the Yr.No weather site I use was spot on today (as usual) rain at noon and it started bang on noon ... Frank (B.O.W.) introduced me to it years ago ... put your location/postcode in and it'll give you a 10 day forecast -- three, hour by hour and 7 days six hourly ... is VERY good 95% of the time .... also has live radar, etc. and all sorts of other features I rarely use .... great weather forecasting site (y):cool:

Suddenly talking of looking no car zone and pushing the 2030 date back etc ..shatting it about next election.
thought it had already been declared that the 2030 was set in stone?

no car zones require seeeeeeerious public transport in place ... can't even get day to day PT successfully operational

someone wants/needs to give Kahn and the judge who backed his ULEZ extension, a seeeeriously good slapping ...... it's effectively discrimination on several levels

I am in no way an electric car fan - they are a load of bollocks as far as I’m concerned.
However, moving the 2030 goalposts that were supposedly set in stone could have major implications for car manufacturers who have to design/develop/test future models a long way ahead.
There is a new TATA battery factory being built (with a great deal of our taxes as a sweetener) for one thing, the costings for which will no doubt have been based on the forecasted demand of a 2030 roll out date.
I can’t see that date changing, but the fact it is in question (let alone exists at all!) is an example of why the short-termism of our political system is so problematic from a ‘get things done purely for the benefit of the country’ point of view.

the other thing to remember is that the 2030 date is to stop SELLING/producing new ICE cars ...
there's been sweet FA said about the circa 32+million existing ICE powered vehicles that'll probably still be knocking about at that time.
They planning on making their use illegal too ????? or just price their fuel out of the market/beyond the reach of 'the peasants' ??
that would be SOME catalyst !!!!
" revolution in their minds, the children start to march, against a world in which they have to live and all the hate that's in their hearts, they're tired of being pushed around and told just what to do " being a politician at that point might not be the greatest of occupations

You can still use them until 2050, but after that your looking for a charging cord

according to fishy Rishi this morning, there is still going to be a need for at least 25% of our current production of oil/gas beyond 2050 / net zero.
point I was making Aiden, is that the manipulation of useable fuels, beyond 2030 will be wide open to serious abuse, in forcing these existing vehicles out of service, to say nothing of MOT goal post moving, etc., etc. which as said earlier will be discrimination against anyone unable to afford anything else, of which there are many millions of 'peasants ' .

interesting snippet, from one interview (been watching the box whilst having my treatment) every pound the oil co.s spend in the North Sea oil/gas fields, exploring/extracting, is subsidised by UK Gov./taxpayers to the tune of 91p in the pound - 91% FFS :oops::mad::mad: ........ then they sell the product to add to their insane profit levels  ... 80+% of which is on the export/open market ... very little goes towards our own self sufficiency o_O:cry::mad::mad::mad:

Remind me...was it about a week of hot weather last year?🫣 seriously what do they take us for...

It's just an excuse to get funding when In reality the system is just knackered from years of under investment. Climate change or not the public transport system is cr*p and needs serious overhaul especially with the disappearance of the private motor car

" Last summer's heatwaves caused widespread train cancellations, caused by issues including buckled rails " ....... stop laying miles of welded track and start re-using bolted sliding expansion joints ... they knew what they were doing when they first built the lines ...... takes far longer to set up and complete one welded joint, than it does to bolt multiples together

I was told the welding isn't the issue it's that they set the tension when laying the tracks according to average temperature. And have set them for to low an average

the reason rails were bolted was to allow for movement .. in both directions ... and ease of replacement ..... just 'cos they've developed techniques for welding them on site these days doesn't mean you should

Do welded rails allow for faster running?

The reason rails were bolted was because all of the original main lines were laid before welding was an option. If you look at a bolted joint there was sod all movement, certainly not enough to allow for expansion In modern temperatures. A lot of the bolted 3’6” lines that we built in Southern Africa buckle in the heat, and the same thing happens here on lines that are still bolted. Welded lines took hold to do away with maintenance and improve safety as broken fishplates and bolts coming loose was a common problem as trains got heavier and faster.
