About to buy a trailer to take my 3 ton dumper. But also would like it to take digger on odd occasion.
Firstly. Does anyone move a 3t dumper on a 10ft flatbed? The dumper is 12ft long but a bit of overhang would be fine but it's whether there's enough scope to get the balance right. I can easily fit 3t digger on a 10ft flatbed with boom sticking out the back. Or perhaps just go 12ft. I don't actually want a trailer any bigger than I have to because it makes it less manouverable and less weight means more payload. Thinking it's probably going to the Nugent 12ft flatbed in the end. Could go tipper but doubt I'd actually use the tip function much in reality., although the Nugent tipper looks a fine thing and not too high bed height either.

Slight deviation but check with the Nugent as some of the ifor flat beds have a lip down the sides whereas the tippers are flat. On this merit alone the tippers are a nicer trailer to use.

I find the 4.5m brian james trailer a great all round trailer. The length is useful and not as big a hindrance as you would think.
That said, if i was doing ground works etc id likely go for a nugent tipper as they are nice and low and would be a good all round option

I’d go 12’. That’s still tiny as trailers go. Used to use a 10’ and a 3t dumper went on it ok but there wasn’t much wriggle room.
I suppose that's what I was thinking. But wouldn't want a 12ft tipper so if went tipper route it would be 10ft and would still want the dumper to fit on there.
I don't have any use for anything longer than 12ft. Possibly for twinwall pipes but that a rare occurrence

The ifor is cheaper than the Nugent by £500. But I want the Nugent because it has decent steel runners down the sides of the floor with all the tie down points- incorporated into it so can still tie down with sides in. The ifor ones can be specified as an extra but they look a bit Mickey mouse in comparison

Even with pipes a ladder rack works fine.

Tbh I have never used an ifor with them fitted. I just notice the stupid lip whenever I use them. It's just a complete pain.

Hmm I better check the Nugent but pretty sure it's flush folded steel. The 6meter twinwall pipes I actually find easiest strapped down on the Disco roof bars- especially with a trailer on the back to shield the collosal overhang🤣

I like the look of the nugent , guessing the tri axle has smaller wheels than the tandem axle ifor which has to be a good thing with lower cog.

I am shifting my 3 tonne dumper with a 14 ft Ifor , I wouldn’t imagine that you would be able to get the balance right on a 10 footer .
Here's a scientific diagram, 2 pics of the internet. The red lines on the dumper are where a 10ft trailer would be at, the blue line on the dumper would sit roughly where the blue line on the trailer is leaving I think a foot wiggle room to get it about right- I think it would be about right I'd have thought

You have more play than that technically as you can load it backwards aswell.

I'd say that you'd have 60-65% of the dumper's weight behind that blue line ... IMHDO it'd be a tad 'waggy' on that trailer, driven on and possibly too heavy on the nose loaded in reverse :unsure:

Yeah I think your probably right. I think driven on forwards with the front tyres more or less against the headboard might be ok but not much wiggle room for sure. My 2 ton dumper reversed on to my 10ft plant trailer is nose heavy but then the wheels are set further back on a plant trailer...

Personally I’d want a bit of wiggle room on the length. If it’s overhanging the bed at the front I’d be worried about it touching the towing vehicle if you had to make a sharp turn.
