they ain't gonna tell us if it was 'the usual suspect' ... but bet it was .... never used to get these sort of car park fires before ppl started parking battery powered fire starters in 'em
Oh that would be called a "coincidence "

right ...... here's one for you all to think about.

I have just watched the sun set in the SSW .. further than it has ever set toward the South than I've seen, in the approaching 14 years I have been here. Even through the height of summer the sun does not set dead west like it used to when we first came here in 2010. I know exactly where it used to set over the Blacks back then. It is something I have taken notice of over the years and the point at which it rises from has also changed significantly too. :unsure:o_O ...
two weeks after the winter equinox it should be heading the other way, as daylight time increases ? o_O

when the Volcano erupted in Iceland and grounded all the aircraft in 2010 there was a very brief item on one of the TV news prog.s about a scientific belief that it had disturbed the centre of the earth's axis, about which it rotates ... only a percentage of a degree, but measurable (somehow) ....
never saw/heard it mentioned again?????? .. but it stuck in my head.

have searched in vain for any mention of this on line and the general response is along these lines ....
" The 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland caused enormous disruption to air travel across Western Europe 1. However, I could not find any credible sources that suggest the eruption disrupted the polar axes. The polar axis is a term used in astronomy to describe the axis around which a celestial body rotates. It is not clear how the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull could have affected the polar axis. If you have any other questions, please let me know. "

" The 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption in Iceland caused enormous disruption to air travel across Western Europe, but it did not affect the polar axes 1. The polar axis is an imaginary line that passes through the North and South Poles of the Earth and is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees relative to the plane of the Earth’s orbit around the sun 2. The eruption of Eyjafjallajökull did not have any significant impact on the Earth’s axial tilt or rotation "

....... from whatever AI bot that replies. ..... however define " SIGNIFICANT "

if this were the case, it would be a far more plausible than any CO2 bollox to explain variations in world climate and weather changes.
As said what bothers me most and causes me to pose this Q is the differing points at which the sun has been dropping over the horizon, year on year ... there is deffo a difference that is observable and as said it is so far SSW tonight it's caused me to pose this to you guys.
there would be no way any gov. would admit to knowledge of an irreversible alteration in axes.
they're far more likely to dream up a n other explanation for noticeable changes and even make money from it? - sure as hell they would

anyone else recall hearing the news item?
anyone else noticed the shift in the setting position of the sun?

and no .... not been on anything  ... don't drink, never tried wacky and not had any tramadol in a week or two :giggle:

Could be something down to the poles changing position. There has been a significant change over the last 100 years since they have been tracking this. Makes the earth wobble differently I guess!!

well that's a more likely explanation ... I kid you lot not .... the sun deffo rises & sets in a different position to what it did in 2010

My Mrs has been saying something similar as the sun is not setting on the same place on the swimming pool!!
well you can tell her from me ... she's not alone in noticing this phenomenon ... big difference here in the last 13 years

I tell Mrs P a few things that are of interest on the forum . One of them won’t be that your Mrs isn’t happy where the sun sets over her swimming pool .
You are missing the point. It is the fact that she has noticed the sun is setting slightly differently over the swimming pool. The pool location was not an accident!! Now it looks like it is almost where it should have been!!!
Quite often my Mrs will ask what has made me laugh, groan or snort. She is quite surprised the extent of some of these “plant” related discussions!!!

I think you’re missing the point Shaun , if I tell my missus that a plant guy on the forum has a pool , the next question she will ask me is , “where’s ours” !!!

right ...... here's one for you all to think about.
On a world scale, the Icelandic eruption was "large" (mag. 4), there have been much bigger events (Mt St Helens, Pinatubo etc.)
Eyjafjallajökull ejected 250 million cubic metres
Mt StHelens ejected 1000 million cubic metres
Pinatubo ejected 10,000 million cubic metres

If the sun rises / sets in different locations, then one of two things must have happened:
  1. the earths axis has changed (the Nth & Sth poles have moved and the equator has a new location)
  2. the angle of the earths inclination has changed ( if the angle increased, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn have moved further apart or vise versa)
If the tropics moved, so would the arctic/antarctic circles resulting in a different number of days of total darkness each winter (I think this would be noticed).

Also, if the earths inclination had changed, the position of every celestial body would also appear to move. Before GPS, the precision navigation instrument was the Sextant. A good operator can plot a position with a Sextant within half a mile, but only if the stars are where they should be. Sextants are still sold to enthusiasts, as backup navigation on yachts and their use is taught in the Navy. Any systematic error would be be discussed widely and be impossible to keep quiet.

As for your (or any other) Government keeping secrets, it's never happened before :ROFLMAO:
