That time of year plant insurance

Got to renew the plant insurance, too much value to add to my public liability.
Who is everyone using?
Beside my current renewal offer, I tried JCB although still awaiting prices, also tried NFU and as usual a massive waste of time, no idea how they are in business, with the lady on the phone somehow perplexed at my audacity to dare shop around for prices

We go through a broker and although it adds a bit to the premium they are worth their weight in gold if you have to claim,I think he is currently covering our fleet through Aviva.

We use NFU, pay them a LOT of money (but in reality it’s about 2.5% of turnover) had a van worth of tools pinches last year, paid out no problem. We sit down with our guy once a year and check it all through.

Over the last 10 years never managed to get one single price from them

Currently insured with Aviva through a broker

I’ve been using a broker call John peers from Wrexham
Couple of old Welsh women in a small office are really easy to deal with so have been using them for a few years now
I’ve never claimed so don’t know if they are any good when it comes to the crunch

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
as I have said many times .. always found NFU faultless ... had all my biz cover (at massive savings over the broker i used for years before them - after he took the p*ss once too often) and still do all my vehicles ... never been any good for bikes ... and struggle with my 'plant' as it's privately owned (although I see no difference between my cranes/FLTs/etc. owned by me T/A Milsteel???? ) ... Might have another go at 'em again this year ... the girls in the office in Wormbridge know my set up here and how secure it is and I'm only looking for fire & theft, here ... but as said were bril. for my biz requirements and not many will cover hot works

will never, EVER use Aviva for anything ever again :mad::mad: paid private medical cover for 30+ years ... "sorry - don't cover inherited genetic issues" .... that I never knew I had and took 14 months to diagnose, 'cos it's rarer than hen's teeth

my cars, trucks and trade plates were on a fleet, but the lifting plant was all on separate road risks policy with NFU, with a.n.other to cover their operation .. was quite a convoluted set up but lifting operations can cause some serious grief / damage.

also with NFU, pricey but they do pay out. just have to keep the pay-outs more than the premium and all is good.

We have farm public liability with NFU. They were competitive on all my policies that I then bolted on for plant, employers, contractors etc!!
Paid out promptly when trailer was squashed by another road user. The adviser we use also helped me out when friends car went up in flames and their insurance wouldn’t pay up.

Been using Tradesmansaver for Plant and Public Liability for years now.
One man band sole trader so ticks all the boxes for me
Basic Groundworker with 3m depth limit with a £500 excess was only £496.98 ;)
Is that with all your machines?
Turnover and sub contractors push mine up with contract works cover. Can’t remember what I am paying at the moment as it lumps my van in as well!!

Make sure read the small print on the plant insurance. I had added cover for my own plant but when I looked into it it had to be in a locked compound every night. That’s not possible for me as my plant isn’t in a compound when it’s on site . When I queried it they wouldn’t budge.

They do class a locked compound as harris fencing. Or at least most do.
We have harris fencing around most sites.

Yeah, but don’t you work on MOD firing ranges? If I were your insurer I’d be loading your premiums pretty highly too, waiting for the inevitable claim for a new machine after you disturb a ‘missing’ anti-tank mine or similar!!!
Sure there would be major s**t if a mine was hit lol
